Educational Assistant for the Complexity Team working at

POSITION SUMMARY

Medicine Hat Public School Division is recruiting an Educational Assistant (EA) to serve as a member of newly established Complexity Team working at Crescent Heights High School.

Complexity teams will support students facing a range of academic, behavioural, social and emotional challenges. This includes supporting students complete high school courses, supporting students with complex learning needs, managing disruptive behaviours and providing additional enrichment for coded students.

Complexity teams are designed to strengthen alternative supports for students and teachers in High School learning environments with high classroom complexity. Each complexity team is comprised of one teacher and one educational assistant, working directly in our alternative learning environment, the Vikings Den to provide timely, targeted supports.

Position is full time (30 hours per week).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Skills & Requirements

- Provide flexible in-class and small-group supports to help students access learning.
- Support implementation of individual support and behaviour plans.
- Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher and learning team.
- Support positive behaviour,



self-regulation, and inclusive practices.
- Supervision duties (recess, classroom, lunch, etc.)
- Experience working with students with diverse needs would be an asset
- Preference will be given to applicants with an understanding of childhood development
- Building strong relationships with students, helping students learn, and seeing the best in every student in an inclusive school setting
- Assisting and supporting students through individual support plans and/or behaviour support plans
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with students and adults
- Work as part of a team, take direction and follow student and classroom programs.
- Enthusiastic and motivated to help students succeed
- Ability to work in a flexible learning environment and make adjustments for classroom or individual student needs

Qualifications

- Educational Assistant Certificate or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience working with students in school setting.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Education or experience in child and youth care counselling or social work or experience working in child and youth behaviour may be considered an asset.
