Overview The Program/Outreach Worker is an entry-level frontline role designed for individuals passionate about social work, community advocacy, addictions services, or street outreach. Positioned directly in the community, you will build relationships with unhoused neighbours, connect individuals with vital resources, and support daily program logistics. Past successful team members include students and emerging professionals in nursing, medical, and addictions programs seeking impactful hands-on experience.

Key Responsibilities

Outreach & Community Engagement

- Direct Care & Outreach: Deliver mobile and street-level support to unhoused community members, providing essential survival supplies and respectful engagement.
- Relationship Building: Build trust-based relationships with community members, local business owners, residential neighbours, and social service partners.
- System Navigation: Assist individuals with basic advocacy and warm referrals to housing services, healthcare, legal aid, and Ontario Works/ODSP support.
- Hospitality: Maintain a welcoming, trauma-informed presence across all designated outreach spaces.

Safety & Crisis Response

- De-escalation: Apply crisis de-escalation techniques to support individuals experiencing distress or heightened behaviors (training provided).
- Harm Reduction & Emergency Response: Respond immediately to medical emergencies, including administering Naloxone during overdose/toxic drug poisoning incidents (training provided).
- Environment Control: Proactively maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive environment for staff, volunteers,



and visitors.

Program Support & Administration

- Mobile Programs: Assist with logistics and execution for initiatives like the Home Bus, ID clinics, and food security services.
- Facility Support: Help with the general cleaning, setup, and upkeep of program areas.
- Documentation: Log accurate shift records, intake details, and incident reports in digital systems.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License.
- Strong, demonstrable commitment to the Christian values, faith-based mission, and community-led vision of Ark Aid Street Mission.

Preferred:

- Enrollment in or completion of a certificate, diploma, or degree in Social Services, Community Support, Mental Health, Nursing, or a related field.
- Prior experience (volunteer or paid) in a non-profit, grassroots, or community-based setting working alongside vulnerable populations.

- Cultural Sensitivity: An inclusive, non-judgmental approach honoring diverse cultural, racial, socioeconomic, and faith backgrounds.
- Digital Literacy & Admin: Basic proficiency with Google Workspace/Microsoft Office and accurate digital record-keeping.
- Local Knowledge: Familiarity with London’s social service landscape (shelters, meal programs, crisis centers) or a strong eagerness to learn.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

- Environment: Dynamic frontline environment; involves indoor/outdoor work in all weather conditions. High exposure to street-level harm-reduction settings.
- Physical Demands: Standing/walking for extended periods, frequent bending, and ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Health & Safety: Potential exposure to biohazards, infectious diseases, and unpredictable behaviors. Full PPE, safety protocols, and health/safety training are provided.

Pay: $20.00 per hour
