Langley Senior Resources Society is an independent and not-for-profit organization providing recreation, education, and social programs and comprehensive supportive services to seniors in the City and Township of Langley. Programs and services are delivered at our two locations and in partner sites throughout Langley. Our dedicated staff, and over 210 volunteers, serve Langley seniors with heart and compassion every day.

Summary of Role:

This position is permanent full-time, up to 35 hours per week. The regular hours are 5 days per week, Tuesday to Saturday from 8:30am to 4:00pm. Under the direction of the Program Manager, or their designate, the Recreation Programmer assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of recreation programs designed to meet the social, emotional, and physical needs of our clients.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

- Plans, implements, and evaluates recreation programs and assists clients to participate.
- Recreation Areas – prepares, monitors, and cleans up areas for activities.
- Maintains activity equipment.
- Keeps all areas clean, tidy, organized, and safe.
- Checks activity supplies and advises supervisor when needed.
- Assists with meal serving and clean up.
- Create and contribute to Client Care Plans, including:
- > Monthly charting of all assigned clients.

- > Interviews assigned client for reassessment; presents a recreation and leisure report.

- > Daily activity charting, recording client participation and progress.





- > Presents Assessments / Care Plan (6-months to 1-year) for assigned clients at morning meetings.

- > Observing clients and follows procedures for reporting any changes in their overall condition or behaviour.

- Assists staff in preparation and implementation of daily kitchen and dining areas and activity programs.
- Attends in-service and staff development programs when offered and as required.
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of Adult Day Program standards, policies and procedures, and the Langley Senior Resources Society (LSRS) Employee Handbook, and the Health & Safety Manual.

Additional Job Functions

- Keep up to date on health & safety training using all techniques to provide safety for clients - asking for assistance from co-workers when needed.
- Work together as a team and perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Requirements

- Graduate from a recognized Recreation Program or equivalent experience in Adult Day Program.
- Successful completion of Fraser Health’s Carefit Program within six (6) months of hire or by the end of the program’s next offering.
- Specific training in dementia care and violence prevention.
- Must be able to speak English competently and understand written and oral instructions.




- Previous experience in a continuing care environment and/or implementing recreation programs for older adults and adults with physical and/or cognitive limitations.
- Provide course graduation and completion certificates, as required.

Abilities/Skills:

- Able to work within a team, continually building team skills.
- Able to work inside the health and safety guidelines as per procedures and bring concerns to the health & safety committee.
- Must demonstrate concern and interest in providing care to clients and be able to encourage clients and help interest them in various programs.
- Must respect that all information about the client and LSRS (including the ADP) is entirely and strictly confidential.
- Able to remain patient and calm when under pressure in emergency situations.
- Must be able to be consistently remain respectful, friendly, and caring with all clients and co-workers / colleagues.
- Highly organized and can multi-task on priorities and projects.
- Be reliable and flexible in meeting work commitments.
- Be tactful, responsive and demonstrate good time management.
- Robust oral and written communication skills.

Pay: $24.00 per hour
