There are many ways to be a competent therapist. We’re looking for people committed to becoming exceptional.

Fieldwork is a group therapy practice in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. We work with a broad range of clients and bring equally broad perspectives to the work. We’re looking for Registered Clinical Counsellors to join the practice as independent contractors for 5 to 25 hours per week.

Requirements

- Active registration with the BCACC
- Formal training in at least one major modality
- Three or more years of experience
- Living in Vancouver, BC.

- Have done your own work to such an extent that you can name what’s coming up for you before others can.
- Can hold the sometimes deadly seriousness of our work with the playfulness of knowing that none of us should take ourselves too seriously.
- See therapy as more than validation, coping skills, psychoeducation, or helping people breathe differently.
- Know when to deploy a protocol and when to apply the exquisitely heartfelt and honest.
- Come to consultation with a conceptualization, not simply a description of what happened in session, and are prepared to lay out your theories behind it.
- See value in ongoing education, formal certification, and comprehensive training, while recognizing that none of these guarantee we are any good at anything.
- Take precision seriously in language,



ethics, documentation, and all the tiny decisions that accumulate into valuable care.
- Do not see the world in dichotomies of good/bad, right/wrong, powerful/disempowered, but can operate within these as necessary to comply with ethics, law, and the need for safety.
- Understand that diagnoses are social constructions, while also recognizing their value.
- Understand that being a therapist means you are first and foremost a disciple of life.

One final thing We are adaptable about the route you took to becoming a strong clinician. Years in practice, certifications, orientations, and training can all be meaningful. We're most interested in judgment, curiosity, diligence, self-awareness, intellectual range, clinical reasoning, and evidence that you’re actively engaged in reaching your potential as an instrument of change.

Pay: $108.50 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 5.0 per week
