Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to provide operational support, administration, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization for critical Ministry applications and enterprise database environments.

The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2019, 2022, and 2025 , including clustering, Always On Availability Groups, upgrades, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and high-availability/disaster-recovery solutions. Experience with at least one additional enterprise DBMS— Oracle 19c, IBM DB2/Windows, or IBM DB2/zOS —is mandatory.

The DBA will work closely with application support, infrastructure, development, architecture, vendors, and project teams in highly available and mission-critical environments.

Must-Have Skills

- Experience designing and implementing REST API integrations and industry best practices.
- Strong hands-on SQL Server Administration experience with SQL Server 2019, 2022, and 2025.
- Hands-on experience with at least one of the following:

- Oracle 19c

- IBM DB2/Windows

- IBM DB2/zOS

Nice-to-Have Skills
- Performance tuning, including query, index, execution plan, and server optimization.
- Strong understanding and implementation experience with backup, recovery, HA, and DR strategies.

Key Responsibilities
- Operational Database Support
- Provide day-to-day operational support for Ministry applications and associated database environments.
- Monitor database health, availability, performance, storage utilization, and reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents and service requests.
- Support production, development, testing, disaster recovery, and high-availability environments.
- Participate in on-call support, after-hours maintenance, and emergency incident resolution as required.
- Support application monitoring and operational stability.
- Database Administration & Maintenance
- Administer, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain:

- Microsoft SQL Server
- IBM DB2 on z/OS and Windows/Linux

- Oracle Database environments
- Perform database installations, migrations, refreshes, cloning, and environment setup.
- Administer SQL Server 2019, 2022, and 2025 environments.
- Configure and maintain SQL Server failover cluster instances.
- Configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and manage Always On Availability Groups.
- Perform SQL Server upgrades, including:
- SQL Server 2019 → 2022
- SQL Server 2022 → 2025
- Maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Manage database security, user access, roles, permissions, encryption, and compliance requirements.
- Perform database capacity planning and storage management.
- Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Analyze and optimize database performance, queries, indexes, execution plans, and system resources.
- Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks affecting application stability.
- Implement monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively manage database health.
- Support high-availability technologies, including clustering, failover, and replication.
- Analyze and resolve data integrity, security, configuration, and recovery issues.
- Change, Release & Environment Management
- Support change management, deployment, release, and patching activities in accordance with Ministry standards and ITIL practices.
- Assess and test Change Requests (CRQs) containing technical content and update them as required.




- Coordinate database changes with infrastructure, application, development, and vendor teams.
- Participate in release promotions and implementations.
- Conduct technical reviews, root cause analysis, and post-incident activities.
- Develop and maintain operational procedures, runbooks, technical documentation, and support knowledge articles.
- Project & Modernization Support
- Provide technical expertise for application modernization, migration, and infrastructure upgrade initiatives.
- Support cloud, virtualization, and hybrid infrastructure initiatives where applicable.
- Collaborate with development and architecture teams on database design and implementation strategies.
- Contribute to data architecture and support effective use of data for product decision-making.
- Provide oversight of data requirements and their implementation.
- Support the definition of data product metrics and KPIs aligned with business objectives.
- Assist with technology lifecycle management and platform upgrade planning.
- Provide end-to-end technical recommendations aligned with business requirements, reference architecture, and Ministry objectives.
- Integration, Security & Solution Support
- Design and implement REST API integrations following established best practices.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business goals and delivery requirements.
- Incorporate security requirements into database and solution designs.
- Understand and comply with applicable OPS security standards and policies.
- Work with data analysts, data engineers, data scientists, developers, architects, project managers, and QA teams.
- Support structured methodologies for application design, development, implementation, and maintenance.

- Deep knowledge of Always On Availability Groups, including setup, monitoring, failover, and troubleshooting.
- Strong database performance tuning capabilities.
- Solid understanding of backup, recovery, high-availability, and disaster-recovery strategies.
- Hands-on experience performing SQL Server upgrades from 2019 to 2022 and 2022 to 2025.
- Hands-on experience with at least one of:

- Create and maintain comprehensive technical and architectural documentation.
- Document database configurations, operational procedures, solutions, and support processes.
- Provide knowledge-transfer sessions to team members.
- Produce technical reports, status updates, and other documentation as required.
- Maintain accurate operational documentation and technical procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience supporting large-scale government or enterprise applications.
- Experience working in highly available, mission-critical environments.
- Knowledge of cloud technologies and hybrid infrastructure.
- Experience with automation and scripting for database administration.
- Relevant certifications in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2, or related technologies.
- Experience with enterprise monitoring and database management tools.
- Familiarity with ITIL-based incident, problem, change, and release management processes.

- Maintain accurate technical documentation, procedures, and operational runbooks.
- Provide effective technical recommendations aligned with business and Ministry objectives.
