Role Overview The Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement is seeking a Senior Automation Developer to lead and support software test automation initiatives across complex IT environments.
The successful candidate will identify opportunities to automate software testing processes, design and develop automated QA tests and frameworks, evaluate automation technologies, and drive improvements across QA and DevOps practices. The role requires strong hands-on experience with Selenium, enterprise-level performance testing tools such as LoadRunner, API testing, SQL, security testing, accessibility testing, and modern Agile/DevOps practices .
The consultant will work closely with QA analysts, software developers, architects, product owners, business stakeholders, and project teams to ensure high-quality software delivery and successful production deployments.
Must-Have Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in software QA, automation, and testing
- Strong experience identifying opportunities for automation within software development and testing processes
- Experience designing, developing, and executing automated QA tests
- Experience designing and maintaining test automation frameworks and scripts
- Hands-on experience with automation tools/frameworks such as Selenium
- Experience with enterprise-level performance testing tools such as LoadRunner
- Experience evaluating and improving test automation approaches
- Experience using at least one programming language
- Strong knowledge of traditional, Agile, and DevOps testing processes
- Experience with API testing using tools such as SOAP UI and Postman
- Experience with SQL and data querying
- Experience testing web applications, APIs, integration components, and web services
- Robust defect identification, tracking, reporting, and troubleshooting capabilities
Key Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities to automate software testing processes
- Design, develop, and execute automated QA tests to validate application functionality
- Design, develop, and maintain test automation scripts and frameworks
- Utilize emerging test automation technologies, including AI-based technologies, where appropriate
- Review and recommend improvements to existing test automation approaches
- Work closely with QA analysts and software developers to identify and resolve quality issues
- Analyze testing and DevOps processes, standards, and best practices and drive continuous improvements
- Provide technical support for test automation tools
- Participate in Sprint Retrospectives and identify opportunities to improve QA practices
- Evaluate test automation tools and processes and recommend best practices
- Translate functional, business, and system knowledge into effective test planning and execution
- Create test data based on approved test plans
- Analyze test results and conduct retesting until expected results are achieved
- Participate in user walkthroughs and obtain client acceptance
- Recommend changes required to achieve acceptable testing outcomes
- Retest implementation criteria in live environments and recommend user sign-off
- Collaborate with developers, architects, product owners, and other stakeholders to establish effective test plans
- Track and resolve testing, production, and IT-related issues affecting quality and client service
- Ensure automation assets are maintained under source control and properly documented
- Ensure appropriate disaster recovery processes are in place for testing automation
QA, Automation & Testing Experience The successful candidate should have 7+ years of experience with:
- Software test automation and QA processes
- Automated functional testing and application validation
- Selenium or similar test automation frameworks
- Identifying and documenting bugs and quality issues
- Installing applications and databases relevant to automation activities
- Testing methods in object-oriented environments
- Agile, traditional, and DevOps teams, processes, and tools
- Programming languages used for automation and testing
- Enterprise-level performance testing using tools such as LoadRunner
- Functional and non-functional testing of:
- Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) solutions
- In-house web applications
- HL7-FHIR web services
- RESTful/JSON/XML services
- APIs
- Reporting solutions
- Integration components
- Extensions and enhancements
- Testing application patches, releases, enhancements, acceptance criteria, and regression scenarios
- Security component testing, including SAML and JWT
- Developing system testing documentation, including:
- Test strategies
- Test plans
- Test use cases
- Test scripts
- API and messaging-layer testing using SOAP UI, Postman, and programming languages
- SQL, information retrieval packages, data queries, and ad-hoc queries
- Accessibility testing for websites, web content, and mobile applications
- WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards and tools supporting AODA compliance
- Preparing test-result reports, including performance and security testing results
- Testing Business Intelligence (BI) solutions, including data setup, integration, analytical reports, dashboards, and data validation
- Validating successful release deployments into production environments and preparing testing reports
Logging, Tracking & Defect Reporting The candidate should have 7+ years of experience with:
- Identifying, documenting, and managing issues and risks
- Creating and maintaining defect logs and defect summary reports
- Using tools such as JIRA,
Confluence, and TestRail
- Updating tasks and project status
- Participating in QA and cross-functional team meetings
- Prioritizing test execution based on business priorities, defect patterns, and available testing windows
- Resolving testing challenges related to shared environments, resources, and test data
- Participating actively in walkthroughs and defect triage sessions
Public Sector Experience Preferred Experience Includes Public Sector Experience – 5 Points
- 5+ years working with federal, provincial, or broader public-sector healthcare providers
- Experience working on large and complex IT healthcare projects
- Knowledge of Public Sector Enterprise Architecture artifacts, processes, and practices
- Ability to prepare technical documentation aligned with industry standards
- Knowledge of Project Management Institute (PMI) and Public Sector I⁢ project management methodologies
- Knowledge of Ministry policies and IT project approval processes
- Experience working with Public Sector Unified I⁢ Project Methodology
- Familiarity with Public Sector Enterprise Architecture and gating processes
- Knowledge of OPS Standard Systems Development Methodologies
- Experience adopting public-sector standards and governance practices
