Position Summary

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Water Treatment Operator performs treatment of oily waters using chemical recipe’s along with assorted types of pumps, valves and process equipment for the movement of the oily waters through the treatment process. The operator is also responsible for assisting with maintenance (scheduling, performing, recording and reporting) of process equipment and maintaining appropriate inventory levels of required treatment chemicals and miscellaneous water treatment supplies. Key Duties and Responsibilities

Movement of oily waters from the tank farm to the process tanks based on direction from supervisor Sampling of the water at different stages of the treatment process Use of pumps for the addition of chemicals (hazardous and nonhazardous) to the treatment tanks as directed Performing basic wet chemistry test on treatment process samples Preparation of reagents needed for treatment process Maintaining Inventory levels of required treatment chemicals and supplies Assisting with the scheduling, performing, recording and reporting of process equipment maintenance (preventative and reactive) Operating and cleaning of the filter press Operating and cleaning of oil/water separator Housekeeping/maintenance tasks in the water treatment building as needed Maintenance of SOP’s Other duties as assigned by supervisor Position Specifications (Qualifications)

Education / Knowledge / Experience

Chemical Engineering Technology or Chemical Technician Diploma Or equivalent experience of 2+ years WHMIS, Transportation Dangerous Goods (TDG) training Knowledge of Ontario Regulation 347 is an asset Lift Truck operator training or willingness to be trained Previous experience with respect to valves and piping systems and pumps an asset Experience/Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and equipment maintenance Skills and Abilities

Able to be physically active all day,



in an indoor/outdoor environment Work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment Ability to react to situations with common sense and good judgment, and in a timely and responsible manner Communication skills: listening, verbal, and written Basic math and problem-solving skills Driving Personal Attributes

Health and Safety Considerations / Unusual Working Conditions

Regular exposure to hazardous materials and chemicals Use of personal protective safety equipment (latex gloves, rubber boots, respiration mask, ear plugs, face shield, goggles, safety glasses), as required Heights, climbing, working with ladders Regular exposure to inclement weather (heat, cold, precipitation) Regular exposure to noisy environments (Yard, Shop, trucks, pumps) Regular exposure to fumes, vehicle exhaust, obnoxious odours Regular exposure to slip and fall hazards Work Workplace

Most of the work is completed indoors in the water treatment building, with some occasional time required in the Lab, Pumphouse and yard as required. Work is generally conducted during a standard work week (Monday to Friday), and generally on a shift schedule which may fall between 2 pm and 11:30pm daily (40 hours per week) Overtime and weekend hours, as required, during peak business times Physical Demands

Physically capable of lifting, pulling, carrying up to 50lbs on a regular basis, and up to 100lbs as required Rolling drums, moving hoses, pushing pump cart operating equipment, such as forklift Climbing stairs and ladders Standing for long periods; very minimal time spent sitting Operating manual and power hand tools Mental concentration to ensure safety protocols and procedures are followed at all times
