Position Summary

The Janitor is responsible for general cleaning, event support and set up, overseeing the work of the custodial staff, supply inventory and ordering, and general tool/equipment maintenance.

Salary: $38,235

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

Major Responsibilities

Perform general cleaning duties as outlined in standard cleaner job descriptions; however, time spent on these tasks may be reduced due to additional responsibilities.

Respond to cleaning and maintenance requests, communicating effectively with building administrators, staff, and residence hall directors.

Coordinate and set up equipment and seating for meetings, classes, graduations, and special events.

Serve as the lead for an assigned building or area by coordinating the work of custodial staff to ensure all cleaning tasks meet campus standards.

Maintain inventory and submit electronic requisitions for cleaning supplies, restroom products,



light bulbs, equipment, and industrial cleaning agents.

Prepare and handle hazardous materials for proper disposal in accordance with safety guidelines.

Work within a team-based environment featuring overlapping shifts, while providing support to colleagues as needed.

Building/Tool Maintenance

Conduct and log monthly fire extinguisher inspections; promptly report any expired or damaged units.

Perform minor (unskilled) maintenance and repair tasks, including fixing furniture, dispensers, blinds, screens, and tightening hardware.

Maintain and ensure proper working condition of tools and equipment.

Computer Use

Use a computer regularly for email communication, printing signage, and processing work orders.

Report damages and maintenance issues requiring skilled trades through the TMA system to appropriate staff.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

Reports directly to the Supervising Janitor.

Directly supervises assigned custodial staff.

Required Qualifications
Non-Competitive: must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and communicate orally and in writing to exchange information.

**This position routinely requires moderate, and occasionally heavy, physical labor including but not limited to lifting, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, and various repetitive motions used in cleaning activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous cleaning and/or labor type work experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Comprehensive understanding of modern cleaning methods, practices,



and materials used in a commercial or campus setting.

Working knowledge of OSHA standards, including safe handling of industrial cleaning agents and hazardous materials disposal.

Familiarity with minor building maintenance, fire extinguisher inspection protocols, and basic mechanical/tool upkeep.

Strong interpersonal skills for acting as a liaison between building administrators, custodial staff, and residence hall directors.
