Job Description DZ Driver/Picker
Location:
2347 Cassell Drive, Hillsdale, Ontario

Monday to Friday, 6:00am Start Time
Compensation:
$27.00 per hour

Responsibilities :
As a DZ Driver/Picker, your duties will include but are not limited to:
Operate municipal waste collection vehicles requiring a valid DZ driver’s licence , including rear-load, side-load, top-loader or automated side-loader collection trucks.
Safely maneuver vehicles on residential streets, laneways, and narrow routes.
Ensure adherence to alltraffic laws, municipal bylaws, and defensive driving practices.
Position vehicle safely during collection activities and operate hydraulic lifting mechanisms when required.
Collect residential garbage, recycling, organics, and yard waste according to municipal collection schedules.
Manually lift and empty waste containers, bags, and bins into the collection vehicle.




Assist with loading materials and ensuring proper placement within the vehicle to prevent spillage.
Identify and report improperly sorted or prohibited waste materials.
Safety and Compliance
Follow allOccupational Health and Safety regulations, municipal policies, and departmental procedures.
Use requiredPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE)including safety boots, gloves, reflective clothing, and hearing protection.
Maintain situational awareness when working near traffic, pedestrians, and moving equipment.
Report safety hazards, incidents, or injuries immediately to supervisors.
Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance
Perform dailypre-trip and post-trip inspectionsof vehicles in accordance with provincial regulations.
Identify mechanical issues or safety concerns and report them through appropriate maintenance channels.
Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure safe operation of equipment such as compactors and hydraulic systems.
Customer Service
Provide professional and courteous service to residents during waste collection activities.
Respond to basic inquiries regarding collection schedules, waste separation, or program guidelines.
Report service issues, missed pickups, or complaints to supervisory staff.
Administrative Duties
Complete requireddaily logs, route sheets, and inspection reports.
Accurately document service issues or incidents encountered during routes.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatch, and team members regarding route progress or operational concerns.
Competencies & Qualifications:
Previous experience inwaste collection, sanitation services, heavy vehicle operation,



or municipal operationsis considered an asset.
Valid DZ Driver’s Licencewith a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
CVOR knowledgeor experience is an asset.
WHMIS training or ability to obtain certification.
Knowledge ofmunicipal waste collection procedures and environmental regulations.
Familiarity with safe operation of hydraulic waste collection equipment.
Solid understanding ofroad safety and defensive driving practices.
Ability to work effectively in ateam-based environment.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
