Responsibilities
Act as the primary management representative aboard the vessel to protect the owner’s commercial interests.
Ensure the overall safety of the crew, onboard contractors, vessel operations, and cargo.
Enforce environmental protection protocols and exercise overriding authority on safety and pollution prevention decisions.
Perform duties in full compliance with maritime shipping regulations, national labour codes, and company policies.
Maintain compliance with ISM Code requirements as well as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
Qualifications
Master Mariner Certificate of Competency (preferred) or Master, Near Coastal Certificate issued by Transport Canada.
Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical. General Operator’s License (GOC – GMDSS).
Pilotage Certificate within designated pilotage regions (preferred).
STCW Certificates of Proficiency: Basic Safety, Advanced Fire Fighting, and Survival Craft/Rescue Boats (other than Fast Rescue Boats).
Ship Security Officer Certification.
Bridge Resource Management Certification.
ECDIS training, with TRANSAS system proficiency (preferred).
Marine Medical Care Certification (preferred).
