Compensation: $25.61 to $32.19

Role Overview Reporting to the Centre Director, the Early ChildhoodEducator (ECE) plays a vital role in creating a safe, stimulating, andnurturing environment where children and families feel a strong sense ofbelonging.
The ECE supports children’s learning and development throughresponsive, play-based experiences while building meaningful and respectfulrelationships with families and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities Createand maintain a warm, welcoming, inclusive, and safe learning environmentfor children and families, tailoring interactions to support individualneeds.
Fosterchildren’s social, emotional, physical,



and cognitive development throughintentional interactions, observation, and thoughtful program planning.
Planand implement developmentally appropriate, play-based programming alignedwith Nova Scotia’s Early Learning Curriculum Framework and the YMCA’sPlaying to Learn curriculum.
Beprimarily responsible for a small group of children while contributing toshared classroom and centre responsibilities, including cleaning tasks,classroom paperwork, and organization.
Buildpositive and respectful relationships with children and families throughopen, consistent verbal and written communication.
Supporta collaborative and respectful team setting by working positively withcolleagues and contributing to centre-wide goals and broader associationobjectives.
Ensureall health, safety, and licensing requirements are met at all times andcommunicate closely with the centre leadership team to support compliance.
Participatein ongoing professional learning, reflection, and quality improvementpractices, including team meetings, training opportunities, and one-on-onesupport meetings with leadership.
Supportoperations by working in classrooms or with age groups other than thoseprimarily assigned and by travelling between YMCA Childcare Centres asrequested by the Centre Director to support ratio coverage.
Performother related duties as assigned.




Qualifications & Requirements Diplomain Early Childhood Education or an equivalent qualification
CurrentECE classification with the Nova Scotia Department of Education and EarlyChildhood Development (ECE Level 1, 2, or 3)
ValidFirst Aid and CPR certification
ClearVulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
Previousexperience as an Early Childhood Educator or in a related field isconsidered an asset
Strongunderstanding of child development and play-based learning approaches
Excellentverbal and written communication skills
Strongorganizational and time management skills
Abilityto work both collaboratively as part of a team and independently
Demonstratedcommitment to creating inclusive, supportive, and respectful environmentsfor children, families, and colleagues
