Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Director of Finance to lead accounting operations for a large public company environment in Toronto, Ontario. This Long-term Contract opportunity is suited to a hands-on finance leader with deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and SOX compliance, along with a track record of strengthening processes and guiding operational improvements. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, sound technical accounting knowledge, and the ability to support finance transformation initiatives while maintaining accurate and timely reporting.

Responsibilities:

- Lead day-to-day accounting operations and provide oversight across core finance functions within a complex public company setting.
- Direct the preparation and review of financial reporting deliverables to ensure alignment with U.S. GAAP, internal policies, and external reporting expectations.
- Strengthen the control environment by managing compliance activities and supporting adherence to SOX requirements.
- Drive process redesign initiatives that improve efficiency, standardization, and accuracy across accounting and finance workflows.
- Support the rollout of finance tools and programs by coordinating implementation activities, stakeholder alignment, and operational readiness.




- Establish and formalize standard operating procedures to create consistency and support scalable finance operations.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to facilitate P2P-related improvements and ensure finance processes are effectively integrated.
- Provide oversight and implementation support for changes affecting payroll-related finance processes and other interconnected financial systems.
- Mentor and guide finance team members while promoting accountability, initiative, and high-quality execution.

Requirements:

- 7+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including leadership responsibility within a large public company environment.
- Strong background in accounting operations, financial reporting, and the preparation of annual audited financial statements.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience working within a SOX-compliant organization.
- Demonstrated success leading process improvement, automation, and finance transformation initiatives.
- Experience supporting the implementation of finance systems, tools, or operating procedures in a structured corporate environment.
- Proven ability to lead teams effectively, influence stakeholders, and operate as a proactive self-starter.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a rapid-paced setting.
