Description
Electronics Soldering & Assembly Technician (Downhole Tools)
Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on technician to support the soldering, cable and wire harness assembly, and mechanical assembly of electronic systems used in downhole drilling tools. This role is suited for someone who takes pride in clean, reliable builds and can work independently in a focused, production-driven environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Assemble and wire cable and wire harnesses using schematics and wiring diagrams
- Maintain clear build documentation (Excel/Word, photos, notes where required)
- Perform precision soldering for prototype and low-volume downhole electronics.
- Complete mechanical assembly (torque-controlled fasteners, sealing, general hand tools)
- Support testing and troubleshooting at a basic level
- Contribute to continuous improvement in build quality and workflow
Requirements
What We're Looking For (Required)
- Minimum 3+ years of hands-on soldering experience (oilfield/downhole strongly preferred)
- Ability to read and work from schematics and wiring diagrams
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
- Strong documentation and record-keeping skills to support traceability and future reference; proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, photos, and notes as required
- Familiarity with ESD-secure handling and clean assembly practices
- Strong attention to detail and a build quality mindset
- Certifications and/or formal training (e.g., IPC-A-610 or IPC/WHMA-A-620)
- General mechanical aptitude in assembly:
- Torque tools and specifications
- General hand tool use
- Hands-on experience with drill presses and light shop equipment
What Sets You Apart (Strong Assets)
- Ability to understand circuits and components (not just follow drawings)
- Strong organization skills (inventory, parts tracking, build kits)
- Ability to improve or create build workflows and documentation
- Working knowledge of Ohm's Law and basic troubleshooting
Compensation & Work Environment (Calgary Context)
- Competitive salary: $70,000 - $85,000, depending on experience and capability
- Stable, year-round work (non-field role)
- Small, technically focused team - high ownership, low bureaucracy
- Opportunity to grow into advanced builds, testing, or development support
