The Roads department serves the public to maintain the integrity and safety of Airdrie's roadways and sidewalks to provide safe and unimpeded movement in and around Airdrie, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, the Roads department coordinates safety orientation and equipment training through effective learning initiatives and field inspections for all municipal staff.
The Winter Equipment Operator/Labourer is responsible for operating various pieces of heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. This position requires you to perform municipal roadway maintenance. You are expected to work independently and as a member of a team, working with internal staff and contractors in a field environment.
This six (6) month term position requires various physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions and the ability to work a compressed work week 24/7. Shifts are pre-scheduled, 12 hours in length and incorporate nights and weekends in the rotation (7 day shifts, 5:30am to 5:30pm – 7 off – 7 night shifts, 5:30pm to 5:30am – 7 off).

Key Responsibilities
Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Safely operate various pieces of heavy equipment which may include 1-7 ton axle trucks with winter attachments and loaders
- Perform municipal roadway maintenance including road and sidewalk snow and ice control
- Carry out requested maintenance as required
Requirements
You Bring
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Class 3Q (or Class 1) motor vehicle licence required
- First Aid and CPR certification would be considered an asset
- Experience with a loader would be an asset
- Demonstrated ability to operate equipment safely and effectively in all conditions
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment to provide outstanding customer service
- Ability to complete various physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions
