Company Description The Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE) is the largest organization of professors, students, researchers, and practitioners in education in Canada. As a major national voice, CSSE represents those who create educational research, prepare teachers and educational leaders, and apply research in schools, classrooms, and educational institutions across the country. CSSE is a bilingual organization dedicated to advancing knowledge and informing practice in diverse educational settings.
The Society hosts an annual scholarly conference, providing a key forum for sharing research and fostering collaboration in the field of education.
Role Description The Administrative & Financial Services Manager is a full-time, in office role based in Ottawa, ON. This position oversees day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, accounting entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting to support the organization’s strategic and operational goals. The role manages financial services such as accounts payable and receivable, payroll coordination, and monitoring of cash flow and expenditures, while ensuring compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and audit requirements.
The manager also handles administrative functions, including maintaining records, supporting governance processes, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and providing logistical support for events such as the annual conference. This role requires regular collaboration with CSSE leadership and staff to develop efficient processes, prepare documentation for decision-making,
and contribute to the smooth functioning of the organization’s administrative and financial systems.
Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data, identify trends, and support evidence-based decision-making.
- Solid knowledge of finance and financial services, including budgeting, cash flow management, and financial risk awareness.
- Proficiency in accounting practices, general ledger maintenance, and preparation of accurate financial statements.
- Experience with auditing processes, internal controls, and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Competence with financial and office software (e.g., accounting systems, spreadsheets, databases) and strong organizational skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and maintain confidentiality and integrity.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving organizational needs in an on-site environment.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision, demonstrating initiative and researching solutions
Assets
- A bachelor’s degree, equivalent, and/or other relevant certification in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field
- Experience in non-profit or membership-based organizations, preferably in education or similar sectors.
- Knowledge of CSSE’s structure and mission, including diverse perspectives on education and research
- French/English bilingualism would be considered a significant asset.
