DSEL is looking for a dynamic and driven professional to lead the deployment of artificial intelligence across our organization.
As our AI Automation Lead, you will work at the intersection of engineering, software development, and emerging AI technology. You will identify practical opportunities for AI, rapidly develop and deploy solutions, and help DSEL transform how engineering work is performed.
The AI Automation Lead will serve as a key link between DSEL’s engineering teams and technology development, translating real-world business and engineering needs into practical AI applications. This position offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of DSEL’s AI strategy while building and deploying tools that have a direct impact on our day-to-day operations.
Position: AI Automation Lead
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time (36 hours per week), Remote
Reporting to: Head of Automation
Responsibilities:
AI IMPLEMENTATION AND DEPLOYMENT
1. Identify and prioritize opportunities where AI can improve DSEL’s engineering, design, cost sharing, software development, and business processes
2. Rapidly prototype, test, and deploy AI-powered tools that solve practical problems for DSEL employees
3. Evaluate and implement recent and emerging AI technologies, including large language models, AI assistants, agents, and AI-enabled software development tools
4. Develop internal AI assistants that can leverage DSEL’s engineering knowledge, standards, procedures, reports, and historical project information
5. Integrate AI tools with DSEL’s existing software, databases, documents, and engineering workflows

Move successful AI concepts from prototype to reliable production tools that can be adopted across the organization
AI AUTOMATION AND ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS
1. Work directly with DSEL’s engineering teams to identify repetitive, time-consuming, or knowledge-intensive tasks that are suitable for AI automation
2. Develop AI workflows for applications such as engineering report writing, document analysis, knowledge retrieval, design support, quality assurance, and project information management
3. Explore and develop agentic workflows where AI can reason through a process, access information, use software tools, and produce useful engineering outputs
4. Collaborate with the existing software development and automation teams to incorporate AI into DSEL’s proprietary tools and applications
5. Establish practical methods for testing, evaluating, monitoring, and improving AI-generated outputs
PROCESS AUTOMATION AND TECHNOLOGY
1. Learn, test, and apply new and emerging AI and automation technologies
2. Assist in establishing DSEL’s AI technology standards, development practices, and deployment processes
3. Provide guidance to developers and engineering staff on effective and responsible use of AI
4.
Continuously evaluate new AI models, platforms, and tools to determine where they can provide value to DSEL
5. Contribute to the evolution and standardization of DSEL’s technology-enabled design and business processes
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in computer science, engineering, software engineering, or a related field
- Hands-on experience developing or deploying applications using generative AI and large language models
- Strong programming skills in Python, C#, or a similar language
- Solid understanding of APIs, databases, software integration, and modern cloud or application development
- Experience with AI concepts such as LLM APIs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, tool calling, or vector databases is an asset
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies
- Able to translate business and engineering problems into practical technology solutions
- Able to articulate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, in writing and verbally
- Highly driven, organized, entrepreneurial, and comfortable working independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
