About Cleanfarms

Cleanfarms is a not-for-profit industry stewardship organization committed to environmental responsibility through the proper management of agricultural waste. Our programs manage agricultural plastics and other inorganic waste from farms across Canada and have earned a reputation of excellence around the world.

In Alberta, Cleanfarms operates a suite of collection and recycling programs for agricultural plastics and packaging. These include the ‘Alberta Ag-Plastic. Recycle It!’ pilot program, which collects grain bags, baler twine, silage plastic, and bale wrap; an empty pesticide and fertilizer small container and bulk container (drum and tote), and seed, pesticide and inoculant (SPI) bag collection program; a collection program for old and unwanted pesticides and livestock/equine medications (UPLM) offered periodically across the province; and, several pilot projects for various other agricultural plastics/packaging. These programs continue to evolve and expand as Cleanfarms works with governments, municipalities, retailers, recyclers, and farmers to develop practical stewardship solutions for Alberta’s farming community.
