Job Title: Ice Technician / Arena Operator

Department: Facilities & Operations

Reports To: Ice Quailty and Maintenance Manager

Job Type: Part-Time / Casual

Location: RINK Training Centre

Wage: $20-$25/Hour based on experinace

Position Summary

The Ice Technician / Arena Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and upkeep of ice surfaces, arena equipment, and facility infrastructure. This role ensures optimal ice quality, cleanliness, and safety standards while delivering a positive experience for patrons, athletes, and event organizers.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain high-quality ice surfaces by performing regular flooding, edging, shaving, and ice depth checks.

Operate and maintain ice resurfacing machines (e.g., Zamboni), edgers, and other arena equipment.

Monitor and adjust refrigeration and HVAC systems to ensure proper ice conditions and energy efficiency.

Conduct daily inspections of ice surfaces, dasher boards, glass, lighting, and facility cleanliness.

Perform general facility maintenance, including minor repairs, painting, and janitorial duties.

Ensure compliance with all safety regulations,



policies, and procedures.

Assist with snow removal, outdoor maintenance, and seasonal tasks as required.

Provide excellent customer service to facility users, responding to inquiries and resolving issues professionally.

Maintain accurate logs and records of maintenance activities, ice conditions, and equipment usage.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary training in a related field is an asset.

Minimum 2 years of experience in arena operations or related facility maintenance (preferred).

Experience operating ice resurfacing equipment and understanding of refrigeration systems. (Preferred)

Knowledge of occupational health and safety practices and WHMIS regulations.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Physically fit and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods, and working in cold environments.

Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in both indoor ice rink environments and outdoor conditions.

Exposure to cold temperatures, humidity, and noise.
