Role
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategy and Market Access (COO/ADM, SAMA), the ADM, Energy Operations provides strategic leadership for the administration and stewardship of Alberta's Crown subsurface resources, royalty operations, compliance activities, and Crown commercial interests. In this highly visible executive role, you will lead a large and technically complex division responsible for royalty administration, resource authorization and tenure management, compliance oversight, modernization initiatives, and stakeholder engagement across Alberta's energy and minerals sectors.
Key responsibilities include leading Alberta's Crown resource stewardship, royalty administration, compliance oversight, and resource tenure management across the energy and minerals sectors. You will ensure effective governance, legislative compliance, operational excellence, and responsible management of Alberta's resource assets. You will champion operational modernization and continuous improvement while building strategic partnerships with industry, Indigenous communities, other governments, regulators, and stakeholders to advance ministry priorities and strengthen public confidence. As a member of the ministry Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will contribute to ministry-wide strategy, enterprise priorities, and cross-government initiatives, balancing operational, regulatory, fiscal, and stakeholder considerations in a complex and dynamic environment.
Success in this role requires a strategic and influential leader with strong political acuity, exceptional relationship-building skills, and the ability to lead through complexity, change, and transformation.
Qualifications
You are a seasoned executive with recent experience leading large, complex, multi-stakeholder operations within the public or private sector. You have a proven track record of delivering results through the leadership of significant operational programs, management of substantial financial and human resources, and fostering strategic partnerships with senior government officials, industry leaders, Indigenous communities, regulators, and stakeholders to achieve strategic outcomes. Experience in energy, natural resources, resource stewardship, regulatory operations, royalty administration, compliance, commercial operations, or related sectors will be considered a significant asset. Demonstrated success leading complex operational environments, modernization initiatives, data-driven decision-making, and organizational transformation is highly desirable.
The successful candidate is a visionary and results orientated executive who demonstrates exceptional political acumen, strategic foresight, and sound judgment in a complex and dynamic environment. You are an accomplished leader with the ability to inspire high-performing teams, drive organizational transformation, and foster productive relationships across government, industry, Indigenous communities, and other key stakeholder groups. By championing the department’s values and priorities, you foster trust, inspire confidence, and provide decisive leadership in through periods of change and uncertainty.
Success in this role requires balancing long-term strategic thinking with operational excellence,
guiding the division through an evolving political and industry environment, promoting accountability, innovation and exceptional service to Albertans.
A bachelor's degree in a related discipline is preferred.
Salary
$ 7,212.78 - $ 9,465.95 bi-weekly (~$188,253.56 - 247,061.30 annually)
