Role Description The Associate Lawyer will work full time on-site in Greater Sudbury, ON, providing legal services primarily in family and child protection law. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, assessing their legal needs, drafting pleadings and other court documents, and preparing legal opinions and correspondence. The role involves appearing in court and at tribunals, negotiating settlements, participating in case conferences, and collaborating with community agencies and other professionals.

The Associate

Lawyer will conduct legal research, maintain accurate and timely file management, and contribute to the firm’s overall strategy to advance the best interests of children and families. The position also requires ongoing communication with clients,



timely updates on case progress, and adherence to professional and ethical standards.

Qualifications

- Licensed to practice law in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Experience or strong interest in family law and child protection matters, including litigation and negotiation.
- Proficiency in legal research, legal writing, and drafting court documents and agreements.
- Strong client service skills, including active listening, empathy, and the ability to work with individuals in stressful circumstances.
- Effective advocacy, negotiation, and courtroom skills, with the ability to present arguments clearly and persuasively.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities, including managing multiple files and deadlines independently.
- Clear, qualified verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues, community partners, and multidisciplinary teams in a respectful, professional manner.
- Demonstrated commitment to child-centered practice and an understanding of trauma-informed approaches is an asset.
- Prior experience in Northern or rural communities and familiarity with local resources are considered beneficial.
