Role Description The Associate Lawyer (Litigation) will handle a variety of civil and commercial litigation files from initial client intake through to resolution. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, assessing legal issues, drafting pleadings and motions, preparing correspondence and legal opinions, and conducting legal research to support litigation strategy. The role involves attending court appearances, mediations, and settlement conferences, as well as negotiating on behalf of clients and collaborating with senior counsel on complex matters.
The associate will manage deadlines, maintain organized files, and ensure clear communication with clients, colleagues,
and external stakeholders. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Calgary, AB.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Law with experience handling a range of Legal Issues in civil or commercial litigation.
- Ability to provide clear, practical Legal Advice to clients, including risk assessment and strategic guidance.
- Experience appearing before Courts, including drafting and presenting submissions and managing court procedures.
- Proficient Negotiation skills for settlements, mediations, and dispute resolution with opposing parties and counsel.
- Member in good standing with a Canadian provincial law society (Alberta preferred) and eligibility to practice law in Alberta.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and drafting skills, with solid attention to detail and analytical thinking.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a client-centered approach and professional judgment.
- Ability to manage multiple files, prioritize tasks, and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- 1–4 years of post-call litigation experience preferred; experience in personal injury or general civil litigation is an asset.
- Preference for those educated at a Canadian law school.
