Role: Azure Synapse and ETL Performance

Location: Remote mode: contract

We're looking for a senior, hands-on resource with experience in the following areas:

1. Azure Synapse and ETL Performance

- Azure Synapse Analytics
- Synapse Pipelines / Azure Data Factory
- Data Lake architectures
- ETL/ELT design and optimization
- Troubleshooting large-scale data processing workloads

2. SQL and Data Warehouse Performance

- Advanced SQL and query tuning
- Execution plan analysis
- Synapse SQL Pools
- Partitioning, indexing, and statistics
- Data warehouse design and optimization

3. Power BI Performance

- Dataset and semantic model optimization
- Incremental refresh
- DirectQuery and Import models
- DAX performance tuning
- Report refresh and capacity analysis

4. Spark and Large-Scale Data Processing

- PySpark and Spark SQL
- Performance tuning of Spark workloads




- Data partitioning and file management

5. Monitoring and Troubleshooting

- Azure Monitor and Log Analytics
- Performance analysis across the data platform
- Comparing UAT and Production environments
- Structured root cause analysis

The ideal candidate has experience troubleshooting performance issues in enterprise data platforms and is comfortable working across both Synapse and Power BI. We need someone who can look at the full data flow, from source systems through ETL and into Power BI reporting, and help us identify where improvements are needed. I recognize that you may not have a candidate that would be able to fill all these skills, knowing that I would prioritize skills #1 & #2
