Backend API Developer (10+ years Candidate required)

Toronto, ON- Hybrid: 2 days a week in office

6 Months Contract with possibility of extension

We are looking for an experienced Backend API Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for mobile applications built on React Native. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in Node.js, RESTful APIs, cloud technologies, and integration with enterprise systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Node.js.
- Build secure, scalable, and high-performance REST APIs for React Native mobile applications.
- Integrate backend services with databases, third-party systems, and enterprise applications.
- Collaborate with mobile developers, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms (OAuth, JWT, SSO).
- Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Troubleshoot production issues and provide ongoing support.
- Develop unit tests and participate in code reviews.
- Ensure adherence to security, coding, and quality standards.

Required Skills

- 5+ years of experience in backend development.
- Strong proficiency in Node.js, Express.js, and JavaScript/TypeScript.




- Experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Robust knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience with API security, OAuth, JWT, and API Gateway.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and DevOps practices.
- Understanding of React Native mobile application architecture and integration patterns.

Preferred Skills

- Experience with GraphQL.
- Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience integrating with SAP, Oracle, or other enterprise platforms.
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum delivery methodology.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working in enterprise-scale mobile application projects.

Nice to Have

- Utilities industry experience.
- Experience with mobile app releases on iOS and Android platforms.
- Knowledge of enterprise integration and cloud-native architectures.

This role will be responsible for building robust backend APIs that power modern React Native mobile applications while ensuring scalability, security, and high availability.
