Game Ready YEG runs small-group basketball skills training for adults across Edmonton, with sessions based in the Papaschase Industrial area on the south side, and a second location in Westmount on the north side. Our attendees may compete in local leagues and want focused coaching to sharpen their game, may be recovering from an injury and need some designated time to get the rust off, or it may be their first time picking up a basketball. The program is built to be accessible to any adult, and our coaches need to be comfortable working with the range in skill level.
Sessions stay small, 4 to 6 players, so everyone actually gets coached instead of just drilled.
- Lead structured 60-minute small-group sessions (ball handling, shooting, decision-making, competitive play) following our existing session plan
- Coach across the full range, from someone who's never dribbled a ball, all the way up to a player putting up 20+ points in a league
- Run a quick baseline skill check for new players and a follow-up around their 5th or 6th session (rubric provided)
- Give attendees feedback they can actually use, whether that's league performance or just building confidence
- Handle basic session safety: warm-up, ask about physical limitations before starting, check the court and equipment beforehand, keep the session to basketball training
- Note anything unusual, an injury, an incident, a no-show, so it's on record
- Share your availability on a rolling basis

- Punctual
- Fluent in English
- Reliable transportation
- Played basketball at the 12th grade level or higher, on a school or club team
- Graduated high school
Preferred, not required
- Prior coaching experience
- Kinesiology education or background
- Comfortable being on social media
What makes someone successful in this role
- Adapts on the fly, both to the overall skill level of a group and to what's happening in the moment
- Can break a complex drill down into steps that make sense whether someone's a beginner, intermediate, or advanced
- Shows up on time, every time
- Genuinely wants to see people improve, not just fill an hour
- Gives feedback that's technically sound, both in the moment and afterward if someone asks for more
- Supportive by nature, the kind of coach who's in someone's corner, not just running them through drills
- Brings energy to every session
- Respects boundaries, physical, verbal, and around what someone can or can't do. You're coaching adults, trust their word and limitations
Bonus, not required
- Fluent in another language. Sessions where it's actually used with an attendee come with an added per-session bonus, ask us for details
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
- Interest in mentoring others. As the program grows, there's room for more involvement and more compensation
Screening A criminal record check will be required before starting.
Schedule
Weekdays, two windows: 7:00am and later, or 7:00pm and later. Some weekend daytime availability as needed, not a standing commitment. This is contract-style work built around your availability, not a fixed shift, but the 7am start needs to actually be 7am.
Pay
Flat $25 per session, regardless of attendance. Sessions run 4 to 6 players.
Interview Process
Two stages. The first is a short online interview covering your background and qualifications. The second is in person, and you'll be paid $25 for your time.
