PIPSC RT Collective Agreement The Biomedical Technologist - Mechanical performs Biomed mechanical functions in the Biomed Mechanical machine shop. Duties include repair and enhancement of surgical instruments, fabrication of any apparatus required to solve a particular challenge or problem, and consult on any aspect related to medical or surgical processes (including appropriateness of materials related to sterility). Other duties as assigned by the manager.
The position involves activities ranging from routine to critical patient safety issues management.
- Tool Maker (college certificate).
- Familiar with all types of Conventional Machine tools and grinders and their associated attachments, stainless welding, silver welding.
- Familiar with full spectrum of materials, (as well as stainless steels, high performance plastics).
- Work within high tolerances, and small, fine work pieces along with exceptional hand-eye coordination and familiar with all hand tools and measuring instruments
- Organize, prioritize, and complete assigned.
- Work with none or minimal supervision. Ability to work fully and independently (without help).
- Observe good health and shop safety practices
- Experience repairing and enhancing surgical instruments.
- Good communication skills.
- Solve mechanical-based problems; design, develop, and fabricate (ability to improvise).
- 5 years of experience in the field.
- Working knowledge of/and experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems.
- Proven ability to think outside the box.
The Biomedical Technology Services department provides technical expertise to clinical areas for the support and maintenance of medical devices and systems. Services such as electrical inspection, repair, maintenance, device evaluation, and user support are mandated. Specialties exist for life support technologies and sophisticated monitoring, diagnostic and therapeutic medical systems.
Support of simpler medical instrumentation is also mandated. Scope includes support for our main hospitals and for our external clients and smaller facilities.
Monday to Friday; 7.5 Hours per day (i.e. shift 8AM-4PM)
