Job Summary

Our Delta, BC location of Zodiac Hurricane Technologies Inc. has an immediate opening for a Boat Propulsion Technician in our Assembly Department. This position is permanent, full-time, working Monday through Friday starting at 6am, with opportunities for overtime.

We are seeking individuals with a positive mindset and an attention to detail to join our team. Candidates must be willing to work hard in a fast-paced team environment and under pressure to meet deadlines with the knowledge and experience working with marine propulsion systems, including diesel engines, electric motors, water jets, propellers, and related mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.

Tasks include maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of various propulsion system components to ensure they meet company quality and safety standards. Your own set of hand tools and steel toe boots are required. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Conduct regular maintenance and inspections of marine boat propulsion systems to ensure they are in optimal working condition, including engines, propellers, water jets, and other related components.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical,



and electronic issues related to propulsion systems and perform necessary repairs. Coordinate with other technicians, engineers, or external service providers when required.
- Assist with system upgrades, modifications, and improvements to enhance the performance and efficiency of propulsion systems.
- Adhere to all company safety procedures, applicable marine regulations, and industry standards. Conduct routine safety checks and ensure all equipment is operating within established safety parameters.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts and necessary supplies for propulsion system repairs and replacements. Monitor stock levels and initiate reordering as needed.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance, inspections, repairs, and service activities. Prepare reports and document any modifications or upgrades made to propulsion systems.
- Provide training and technical support to boat operators and crew members on proper propulsion system operation, basic troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
- Conduct performance tests on propulsion systems to assess efficiency, power output, fuel consumption, and overall system performance. Analyze test results and propose improvements where necessary.
- Be prepared to respond promptly and effectively to propulsion-related emergencies, helping to ensure the safety of the vessel, crew, and passengers.
- Assist with vessel inspections, testing, commissioning, sea trials, and return-to-service activities as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
- Communicate maintenance findings, repair requirements, and any safety or performance concerns to the Manager or Supervisor.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Manager and/or Supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements

- High school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Further education or certifications in marine engineering,



mechanical engineering, or a related field is highly desirable.
- 2–3 years of proven experience as a marine technician, propulsion technician, or in a similar role is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of marine propulsion systems, including diesel engines, electric motors, water jets, propellers, and related components.
- Familiarity with electrical and electronic systems commonly used in marine vessels.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently in a challenging marine environment.
- Physical fitness and agility to work onboard marine tube boats and carry out physically demanding tasks.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures specific to marine environments.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring the highest standards of workmanship.
- Must be able to lift heavy weights (up to 23 kg / 50 lbs).
- Must be able to work in confined and/or restricted spaces in occasional awkward positions.
