We are looking for an experienced bookkeeper in the Halifax area to work with small-business clients on an ongoing basis.

The role will start part-time and is expected to grow as the Halifax client base grows, with the potential to become a full time position over time.

This role may be a particularly good fit for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset. You will be responsible for your own client relationships and will have the opportunity to grow your portfolio over time. There is also optional additional compensation for clients you personally introduce.

Responsibilities

- Review and categorize business transactions
- Reconcile bank and credit-card accounts
- Complete monthly bookkeeping reviews
- Prepare monthly financial statements
- Track GST/HST
- Follow up with clients for missing information
- Prepare books for year-end
- Assist with payroll where required
- Assist with corporate tax filing workflows
- Respond to client bookkeeping questions
- Act as the primary bookkeeping contact for assigned clients

You will work through Brian, our bookkeeping platform.

Brian is used to manage transactions, documents, reconciliations, client questions and month-end workflows. Much of the repetitive bookkeeping process is organized through the platform, allowing the bookkeeper to focus on reviewing the books, resolving exceptions and working directly with clients.

Training on Brian will be provided.

Compensation

Compensation will depend on the client portfolio and services performed.

The position is listed at an approximate equivalent of $25–$35 per hour.

- Clients you personally introduce





The full compensation structure will be discussed during the interview process.

Local prospecting is not required. However, bookkeepers who choose to introduce new clients may earn additional recurring compensation.

Requirements

- Small-business bookkeeping experience
- QuickBooks Online experience
- Experience with bank and credit-card reconciliations
- GST/HST knowledge
- Experience preparing books for year-end
- Strong attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Comfortable working directly with small-business owners
- Comfortable learning and using bookkeeping software
- Comfortable taking ownership of client relationships
- Interested in growing with a new regional bookkeeping operation

An entrepreneurial mindset is an asset.

Experience with payroll, TaxCycle or corporate tax preparation is also an asset, but is not required.

Growth

This is the first bookkeeping role for the Halifax market.

The position is intended to start part-time and grow as additional clients are added.

As the Halifax operation grows and additional bookkeepers are added, there may eventually be an opportunity to move into a Regional Manager role with responsibility for client assignment, bookkeeper onboarding and regional operations.
