Business Development Manager – Employer Partnerships & Workforce Development
About IMTTThe Institute of Machine Tool Technology (IMTT) is a career college focused on preparing students for careers in manufacturing and skilled trades through industry-focused, practical training.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and well-connected Business Development Manager to expand our employer network across the Greater Toronto Area.
The primary focus of this role is to build and manage employer partnerships that create employment opportunities for IMTT students and graduates, while also identifying corporate training and workforce-development opportunities for IMTT.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, machine shops, industrial employers, appliance service companies, recruiters, and other skilled-trades employers across the GTA.
- Generate employment opportunities for IMTT students and graduates, particularly within CNC machining, manufacturing, and appliance service industries.
- Conduct active employer outreach through phone calls, email, LinkedIn, networking, referrals, and in-person visits.
- Meet with HR Managers, Plant Managers, Operations Managers, Business Owners, and industry leaders to understand their workforce requirements and introduce IMTT's training capabilities.
- Build and maintain an active pipeline of prospective employers and partnership opportunities.
- Identify opportunities for corporate training, employee upskilling, customized training, and workforce-development partnerships.
- Develop long-term relationships with employers to encourage repeat hiring and ongoing collaboration with IMTT.
- Represent IMTT at industry events, job fairs,
networking events, employer meetings, and relevant industry associations throughout the GTA.
- Work closely with IMTT's admissions, academic, and management teams to understand student skills and connect suitable candidates with employer opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of employer contacts, meetings, opportunities, follow-ups, and outcomes using IMTT's CRM and reporting systems.
- Track and report key business-development activities and results, including new employer relationships, employer meetings, job opportunities generated, student referrals/placements, and corporate-training leads.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3–5+ years of experience in business development, employer relations, B2B sales, recruitment, workforce development, manufacturing, skilled trades, or a related field preferred.
- Engineering or technical background in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline is an asset.
- Strong understanding of the GTA manufacturing, machining, industrial, or skilled-trades market.
- An existing network of employers, manufacturers, machine shops, industrial companies, or appliance service businesses within the GTA is a significant asset.
- Demonstrated ability to develop new business relationships through prospecting, networking, cold outreach, and relationship building.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills with the ability to manage multiple employer relationships and opportunities.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and comfortable working independently.
- Comfortable travelling throughout the GTA for employer meetings, site visits, networking events, and industry activities.
