BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Position Summary The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving profitable revenue growth by identifying and securing new dedicated fleet business opportunities throughout Alberta. This is a hunter-focused role requiring disciplined prospecting, strong consultative selling skills, and the ability to understand customer transportation requirements and present effective full truckload dedicated fleet solutions. The successful candidate will build relationships with key decision-makers, lead the customer-facing sales process from initial contact through proposal presentation and closing, and collaborate with internal teams to develop competitive solutions and support the successful implementation of new business.
The role will also maintain selected customer relationships after the sale to support retention and identify additional growth opportunities.
Location: Alberta (Edmonton or Calgary)
Schedule: 40 hours Monday to Friday
What you will do
- Identify new dedicated fleet business opportunities throughout Alberta, focusing primarily on full truckload transportation solutions.
- Prospect and develop relationships with large, medium, and small businesses requiring dedicated transportation services.
- Reach out to new prospects and build a qualified sales pipeline using relevant sales engagement tools.
- Identify and develop call cartage and backhaul opportunities that support dedicated fleet utilization and profitable revenue growth.
- Generate new business opportunities through cold calling, networking, referrals, industry events, and in-person customer meetings.
- Acquire critical business information to understand customer transportation requirements and develop customized dedicated fleet solutions.
- Present Canada Cartage dedicated fleet services as strategic solutions to customer supply chain and transportation challenges.
- Identify and secure upsell and cross-sell opportunities within new and existing customer accounts to drive profitable revenue growth.
- Collaborate with Operations, Pricing, Solutions, Legal, and Business Implementation teams to develop competitive customer solutions and support successful onboarding of new business.
- Lead customer presentations, proposal reviews, and the sales component of RFP opportunities while working with internal teams to develop effective solutions.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and influencers across target organizations.
- Maintain regular follow-up activities and account reviews to support customer retention and growth opportunities.
- Work independently across the Alberta territory while leveraging internal sales support, tele-prospecting resources, and subject matter experts.
- Achieve and exceed sales targets through disciplined prospecting, solution selling, and relationship development.
What You’ll Bring
- 4-5 years of transportation, logistics, freight, dedicated fleet, brokerage, freight forwarding, parcel, warehousing, rail, or supply chain sales experience.
- Proven success developing new business and exceeding sales targets in a business-to-business sales environment.
- Experience selling transportation solutions, dedicated fleet services, full truckload transportation, or other complex logistics solutions.
- You are a true hunter with a can-do, never-give-up attitude.
- You know how to navigate gatekeepers, identify decision-makers, and gain access to senior stakeholders.
- You are a confident closer with exceptional customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Prospecting excites you, and you are energized by building new business opportunities from the ground up.
- Strong consultative and strategic selling abilities with the capacity to uncover customer needs and develop value-based solutions.
- Demonstrated experience presenting proposals and solutions to customers and executive decision-makers.
- Strong documentation and CRM management skills, including experience with platforms such as Salesforce.
- Results-oriented with the ability to work independently and manage a geographically dispersed territory.
- Solid communication, negotiation, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build credibility and long-term customer relationships.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple opportunities simultaneously.
- Post-secondary education is considered an asset.
