Business Development Manager - Water treatment
Our client is a growing, private equity-backed manufacturer of engineered water treatment and reuse systems, serving the Greater Toronto Area's commercial and high-rise development market. They are a leading player in a niche shaped by regulatory requirements for water reuse in new-build developments, with strong growth potential as the market and their capabilities expand.
We are seeking a Business Development Manager to be the face of our client's water reuse business across the Toronto market. This is a relationship driven, networking focused role rather than a high-volume transactional sales job: you will be building relationships with consulting engineers and mechanical contractors, running lunch-and-learns, visiting job sites, and quoting on major commercial construction projects. Sales cycles are long, given the scale of the projects involved, and success in this role is built on trust, technical credibility and genuine market presence.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with consulting engineers across the Toronto market, including regular in-person networking and lunch-and-learn sessions.
- Develop relationships with mechanical contractors and visit active job sites to identify and pursue opportunities.
- Prepare and manage quotes for large commercial construction projects.
- Represent the business as a knowledgeable, credible technical and commercial contact in the water reuse space.
- Manage a long, multi-stage sales cycle from initial relationship through to project quote and close.
- Work closely with the engineering and delivery teams to ensure what is sold is deliverable.
About You
- Comfortable as a relationship-builder and networker rather than a high-pressure closer; success here is about consistent presence and trust over time.
- A background in engineering consulting (water/wastewater or mechanical) looking to move into a commercial/BD-facing role would be an excellent fit, as would an existing technical sales or BDM background in water treatment, mechanical, pumps or building services equipment.
- Existing relationships with consulting engineers and/or mechanical contractors in the Toronto market are a robust advantage.
- Comfortable working for a smaller, growing, private equity-backed company.
- Based in or able to work from Downtown Toronto.
