Security Camera Technician/Installation Specialist

Probe Security is a leading, family-owned security company specializing in concierge security and protection services for condominium communities throughout Toronto and the GTA.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Security Camera Technician to join our team. This position is ideal for someone with robust hands-on CCTV experience who can inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and assess camera systems in condominium buildings.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently at different properties, identifying issues with existing camera systems, documenting deficiencies, and providing practical recommendations to improve security coverage and system reliability.

Main ResponsibilitiesCamera System Inspections & Inventory

- Conduct detailed inspections of existing CCTV and camera systems at condominium properties
- Create and maintain camera inventories, including:
- Camera manufacturer and model
- Approximate age and condition
- Camera type and resolution
- Mounting location and mounting condition
- Camera positioning and angle
- Network connectivity and status
- Recording status
- Identify cameras that are offline, malfunctioning, outdated, damaged, or not operating as intended
- Verify that cameras are properly connected to the network and recording system

Camera Coverage & Security Assessment
- Review camera coverage throughout the property and identify security gaps
- Identify blind spots and areas requiring additional coverage
- Determine whether cameras are:
- Mounted too high or too low
- Angled incorrectly
- Obstructed by walls, landscaping, signage, lighting, etc.
- Providing excessive or unnecessary overlap
- Properly positioned for entrances, exits, parking areas, elevators, lobbies, corridors, garbage rooms and other critical areas
- Assess whether existing camera placement provides useful identification-quality footage

CCTV Infrastructure Assessment
- Inspect existing cabling and low-voltage infrastructure
- Identify cable type, condition, termination quality, and potential deficiencies
- Inspect conduit, pathways, junction boxes, and mounting infrastructure
- Identify damaged, poorly installed, or exposed cabling
- Locate network switches and assess available/free ports
- Assess PoE requirements and available switch capacity
- Inspect NVR/DVR locations and assess recording capacity
- Determine whether existing infrastructure can support additional cameras or system upgrades
- Identify infrastructure that can be reused versus infrastructure that should be replaced

Network & System Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot IP cameras, PoE devices, switches,



NVRs and related equipment
- Configure and troubleshoot IP addresses, network connectivity and camera communication
- Diagnose cameras that are offline or intermittently disconnecting
- Troubleshoot recording, playback, storage and connectivity issues
- Work with existing network infrastructure to identify potential system bottlenecks
- Assist with firmware updates and system configuration where appropriate
- Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations and deficiencies

Access & System Security
- Review camera and recording-system access controls
- Identify default, weak, shared, or improperly managed passwords
- Identify outdated or vulnerable firmware
- Review how remote access to CCTV systems has been configured
- Identify unnecessary or insecure remote-access methods
- Make recommendations to improve system security and access management
- Escalate significant cybersecurity or system-security concerns when identified

Environmental & Lighting Assessment
- Assess camera performance during both daytime and nighttime conditions
- Identify lighting issues that affect image quality
- Assess exposure of exterior cameras to weather and environmental conditions
- Inspect cameras located in parking garages and other challenging environments
- Identify issues caused by glare, shadows, low light, backlighting, dirt, condensation or other environmental factors
- Recommend appropriate camera positioning, lighting improvements or equipment changes

Repairs, Maintenance & Upgrades
- Perform camera replacements, repairs and adjustments
- Reposition and refocus cameras when required
- Replace damaged cabling, connectors, mounts and related components
- Perform preventive maintenance on CCTV systems
- Assist with camera and NVR installations and upgrades
- Configure and commission new cameras and recording equipment
- Test systems following repairs or installations
- Train property management and/or designated building staff on basic system operation when required

Reporting & Recommendations Following inspections, the technician will be expected to provide clear documentation identifying:
- Immediate repairs required
- Cameras that can be repaired or repositioned
- Equipment that should be reused
- Equipment approaching end-of-life
- Cameras that should be replaced




- Areas requiring additional camera coverage
- Infrastructure that can be reused
- Infrastructure that requires upgrading
- Network or recording capacity concerns
- Security vulnerabilities or configuration concerns
- Recommended upgrades and improvements

The successful candidate must be able to distinguish between what actually needs to be replaced and what can reasonably be repaired, repositioned, or reused.

Mandatory Requirements

- 2+ years of hands-on CCTV/security camera installation and service experience in Canada
- Strong experience with IP camera systems and NVRs
- Experience with CCTV troubleshooting, maintenance and system upgrades
- Strong understanding of IP networking and PoE
- Experience running and terminating low-voltage cable
- Ability to troubleshoot network-connected security devices
- Comfortable working with Windows-based systems
- Ability to perform detailed camera and security-system assessments
- Strong understanding of camera positioning, coverage and image quality
- Valid Ontario G driver's licence with a clean driving record
- Good written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to work independently and travel between condominium properties throughout the GTA
- Strong documentation and report-writing skills
- Professional appearance and communication when dealing with property managers, condominium staff and residents

Additional Experience Considered an Asset
- Experience with Axis, Hanwha, Hikvision, Dahua, Avigilon, Digital Watchdog or similar CCTV platforms
- Experience with Genetec, Milestone or other VMS platforms
- Experience with access control and intercom systems
- Experience working in condominium buildings
- Experience with network switches and VLANs
- Experience with fibre optic infrastructure
- Experience with structured cabling
- Experience conducting security assessments or CCTV audits
- Experience preparing camera upgrade recommendations and quotes

What We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who is hands-on, technically capable, detail-oriented and able to think beyond simply replacing equipment.

You should be able to walk into a building, understand the existing camera system, identify what is working and what isn't, determine why an issue exists, and provide a practical solution.

You should also be comfortable explaining your findings to management in straightforward language and documenting your recommendations clearly.

Compensation

$20.00–$24.00 per hour, depending on experience and technical qualifications.
