Most carpenters spend a career building things that will eventually be torn down.

Ours don’t.

CHC works on buildings that have already stood a hundred years and are expected to stand another hundred. Sandstone commercial blocks. Landmark hotels. Timber-framed structures older than the province. When we get it right, nobody notices — which is exactly the point.

We’re one of the top-ranked heritage contractors in Canada. We’re also deliberately small, and we intend to stay that way. Every person here is visible. Every person’s work is on the building.

What you’d actually be doing

Our 2026/2027 book is full, and a large share of it is windows and doors:

- Restoration of historic windows, doors and exteriors — sash rebuilds, sill and jamb fabrication, epoxy consolidation, traditional joinery, glazing and re-glazing, hardware repair. Bench work in our SE Calgary shop and on site.
- Installation and replacement — heritage-sympathetic window and door replacement in old buildings, plus high-performance modern units in high-end residential. Rough openings that aren’t square, walls that aren’t plumb, and no room for shims and hope.
- Multi-year exterior programs on significant Alberta heritage buildings, worked elevation by elevation
- High-end residential custom scope, where the tolerances are tight and the details are the whole job
- Assessment and problem-solving on buildings where the drawings are wrong or don’t exist

The role calls for versatility. One week you’re on a scaffold in a downtown core setting units. The next you’re at a bench matching a sash profile that hasn’t been produced since 1912.



Then you’re playing detective — figuring out how a 1905 carpenter did something, and why.

Who we’re after

- Drive to learn. Experience can be earned here. Appetite can’t be taught. This is the one non-negotiable.
- Fine carpentry fundamentals. Finish work, millwork, joinery, cabinetry, restoration. We are not a framing outfit — nothing here is stick-built and covered in drywall. Red Seal is ideal, not mandatory.
- Window and door experience is ideal, not a requirement. Install, service, or millwork background helps. If you’ve hung doors and set units in buildings that fought you, say so. If you haven’t, say that too.
- A head that works on problems. Heritage work is 40% craft and 60% figuring out what’s actually going on. Bring curiosity or don’t bother.
- Care about the outcome. We do not chase volume. We chase getting it right.
- Someone others want to work beside. On a team this size, one bad attitude is a structural problem.

We will train you in the heritage-specific scopes — traditional joinery, sash and sill work, glazing, consolidation and repair methods, heritage-sympathetic installation. Nobody arrives knowing this; there’s nowhere to learn it but on the work. What you bring is the appetite for it. Requirements: valid driver’s licence, own hand tools, legally able to work in Canada, comfortable with heights and site conditions.

People who want to be left alone with a nail gun and a set of headphones. People who measure a day by how many units went up. People who’ve decided they already know everything.

If your background is production framing and you’re looking for more of the same, this isn’t it.
