Title of position: Ceiling Containment Systems (CCS) Supervisor
Position overview:
The Ceiling Containment Systems (CCS) Supervisor is a specialized and highly technical supervisory role responsible for overseeing the installation, coordination, and performance of engineered ceiling containment systems in commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.
This position requires in-depth technical knowledge of ceiling containment assemblies, including compliance with air systems, fire-rated ceiling systems, and applicable Canadian building codes,
fire codes, and tested system standards.
Unlike a general construction supervisor, the CCS Supervisor provides technical leadership specific to ceiling containment systems and liaises with Fire Authorities having Jurisdiction.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Specialized Installation Supervision (35%)
- Supervise and coordinate trades and installation crews performing ceiling containment system work.
- Oversee installation of ceiling containment barriers, fire-rated ceiling assemblies, and ensures accordance with engineered designs and manufacturer specifications.
- Ensure correct sequencing and integration of containment system installation in relation to HVAC, electrical, fire protection, and structural systems or components.
2. Technical Coordination & Field Problem-Solving (25%)
- Interpret and apply building ceiling plans, engineering drawings, containment system scopes of work, and technical specifications.
- Resolve complex on-site issues involving system compatability, performance requirements, and installation constraints.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, architects, fire marshals and inspectors to ensure containment systems are code compliant and function as designed.
3. Code Compliance & Quality Assurance (20%)
- Ensure ceiling containment installations comply with the Ontario Building Code (OBC),
National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), and applicable fire code requirements.
- Verify installation of UL-listed and tested ceiling containment assemblies.
- Conduct inspections and quality checks to confirm system integrity, fire-rating continuity, and performance.
4. Safety & Workforce Oversight (10%)
- Enforce site safety policies and procedures related to specialized ceiling containment work.
- Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to installation personnel specific to ceiling containment systems.
- Monitor workmanship to maintain performance and compliance standards.
5. Documentation & Reporting (10%)
- Maintain daily reports, inspection records, and deficiency lists related to ceiling containment system products and / or installations.
- Support project close-out by confirming compliance documentation and as-built conditions.
Specialized Skills & Knowledge
- Advanced technical knowledge of engineered ceiling containment systems.
- Familiarity with certifications, fire ratings ceilings, and containment performance standards.
- Solid ability to coordinate ceiling containment work with mechanical, electrical, and life-safety systems.
- Technical troubleshooting skills specific to containment system performance and compliance.
Work Conditions
- Primarily on active construction sites across Ontario.
- Physically active role requiring site presence to oversee specialized installations.
