Play a pivotal role in Ontario's legislative process The Office of Legislative Counsel (OLC) is seeking an exceptional legal and executive leader to serve as Ontario's next Chief Legislative Counsel. This unique role sits at the intersection of law, public policy, parliamentary process and government decision-making.

As the province's senior legislative drafting authority, you will lead teams responsible for legislative drafting, French translation services and e-Laws and editorial services. Leading a highly specialized workforce, you will oversee the drafting of government bills and regulations in both English and French, while also providing confidential legislative drafting services to Members of Provincial Parliament from all parties. Working closely with ministries, Cabinet Office, the Legislative Assembly and senior government leaders, you will help transform public policy into effective, accessible and legally sound legislation that serves Ontarians.

About the job

Reporting to the Deputy Attorney General, you will:

- lead Ontario's Office of Legislative Counsel, providing strategic leadership for legislative drafting, translation, editorial services, legislative publishing, including Ontario's e-Laws website, and organizational modernization initiatives
- lead a highly specialized team of legislative counsel and professionals, fostering excellence in legislative drafting, collaboration, innovation and client service across government
- oversee the drafting of all Ontario's bills and regulations, ensuring legislative instruments are legally effective, clear, accessible and aligned with client objectives
- lead and provide expert advice on Ontario's most complex, sensitive, high-profile and time-critical legislative initiatives




- build trusted relationships with Cabinet Office, ministries, the Legislative Assembly and Members of Provincial Parliament from all parties while safeguarding the integrity, confidentiality and non-partisan nature of the legislative drafting process

You are a respected executive leader with demonstrated ability to:

- lead highly specialized professional teams in a complex, rapid-paced and high-profile environment
- lead organizational transformation, modernization initiatives and change management activities
- foster employee engagement, inclusion, collaboration and continuous learning
- build trust, credibility, and strong relationships across diverse stakeholders

Legislative Drafting and Legal Expertise

You possess

- extensive experience drafting legislation or regulations
- deep knowledge of legislative drafting principles, statutory interpretation and the legislative process
- demonstrated ability to provide strategic legal advice on complex and precedent-setting matters
- exceptional ability to translate complex policy objectives into effective legislative frameworks
- a Law Society of Ontario license in good standing, or eligibility for membership

Strategic Relationships and Influence

You have proven ability to:

- build effective relationships with senior executive, legal professionals, elected officials, and legislative stakeholders
- provide expert advice and guidance in complex governance environments involving multiple decision-makers and competing priorities
- communicate complex legal and legislative concepts clearly to diverse audiences
- exercise the highest standards of confidentiality, impartiality, and diplomacy
