About the Role – How you will Contribute to the Service:

The Communications team is hiring a talent pool of Communicators – 911 Operators (Temporary as Required) for our February 2027 hire intake group. In this pivotal role, your precision with dispatch and call taking expertise for 911 emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, other agencies and members of HRPS are essential to ensuring the Halton Regional Police Service and its community maintain and exceed public safety communication standards.

As the guardian of communication systems vital to public safety, you will work with cutting edge technology, ensuring seamless and reliable communication channels for emergency responders. You will work alongside police officers and community groups to collectively respond to callers in our community. You’ll be responsible for performing multiple, urgent tasks simultaneously and accurately, dispatching emergency responders and monitoring their whereabouts and safety throughout critical incidents.

What you will Bring to the Role:

Education, Certifications and Qualifications: The ideal candidate must be able to work days, nights, and weekends. In addition, candidates that possess a post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree,



speak a second language, an aptitude in the use of various technologies and business software i.e. previous use of a CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system, Police Records or Police Radio are an asset.

Previous Experience, Knowledge and Skills: The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of one year’s experience in a customer service-oriented role, which involves communicating with the public and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment. Experience working in a high-volume inbound/outbound call center/dispatching is an asset.

Various skill assessments (i.e. Grammar, Spelling, Criticall Communications Test, Speed & Accuracy Typing etc. may be administered as part of the selection criteria

Note: The successful applicant will need to pass a background check to the satisfaction of the Service which will include but not limited to reference checks with previous employers, verification of educational achievements, and a criminal background screen etc.

Our Communications Centre operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Training will consist of 4 weeks in-class instruction following a Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. schedule. After which you will be assigned a platoon that follows a 4 on 4 off 12-hour schedule

This position is based out of our Oakville Headquarters facility which is located at the QEW and North Service Road West.

Salary: $58.45 hourly and 4% vacation pay.

Projected Recruitment Timelines:

- August 26 – September 20, 2026: Online application period

During this stage, applicants may be required to complete online assessments, which may include the CritiCall assessment, speed and accuracy typing tests, proofreading exercises, and other job-related assessments. Applicants who most closely meet the established qualifications and assessment requirements will proceed to the next stage of the selection process.

- ***October 27, 2026: Mandatory presentation and mini-interviews (evening session) Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a “mandatory session” that includes a presentation and brief interviews.

- Week of November 16, and Week of November 23, 2026: Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in-person interview conducted by a panel (during business hours)

- Week of December 7, 2026: Pre-employment checks: Comprehensive pre-employment screening will be conducted, which may include reference checks, background verification, and other relevant evaluations.

- February 2027: Anticipated start date
