L’sitkuk (Bear River) First Nation is a smaller Mi'kmaq community located 3 km from the village of Bear River.

The Bear River First Nation Health

Center serves approximately 300 band and community members. We are looking for a key member of our health team. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Working closely with the Doctors, RN and other Health Team Members, the Community LPN would be responsible for Community Health and Education including but not limited to:

· Leading medical initiatives within the community promoting longevity and quality of life

· Advocate for the health and wellness needs of the community

· Provide hands on medical lead initiatives

· Oversee the medical transportation program

· Oversee the OH&S; program

· Liaison with non insured Health Benefits program

· Plan, organize and hold an annual Canada Health Day for Community

· Other duties as required, discussed and agreed upon

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

· Registered Licensed Practical Nurse certification, training with significant, recent and relevant experience working in a health setting including the development, implementation, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of health and wellness services programs and services

· Experience in development of culturally relevant and secure programs and services including monitoring and evaluation





· Demonstrate experience in management and leadership of staff and contractors

· Willingness to upgrade training when applicable

KNOWLEDGE

· Understanding of the political, cultural and spiritual protocols of the community

· Understanding of health and wellness challenges and historical factors that are relevant to the community’s health and wellness challenges

· Understanding of the social determinants of health including but not limited to housing, food security, education etc.

· Understanding of accurate data and information management as it applies to health planning and reporting

· Understanding of basic financial and budget process and protocols

· Knowledge of leadership and management process, tools and protocols

ABILITIES/COMPENTICENIES/SKILLS

· Ability to identify relevant community health priorities through involvement and consultation with community members

· Ability to access and apply research and innovation to community health and wellness polices, programs and services

· Ability to embrace change and demonstrate flexibility

· Ability to communicate effectively with Chief and Council, Community members and health partners

· Ability to organize and host community health events and engagements

· Liaison to ensure connections between community and health partners

· Effective interpersonal skills and abilities to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and points of view

OTHER INFORMATION

· Monday to Thursday – 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Friday mornings – 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM

Flex time and home visits, weekends when needed (not often, but does happen occasionally)

· Full-time, Permanent

· Location: In person at the BRFN Health Center

· $31.00 to $33.00 per hour

Pay: $30.00-$33.00 per hour
