Aid - Montreal | Laval is currently looking to fill a position for a lawyer to join our criminal law team Outside the regular business hours of community legal aid offices, our lawyers provide an essential service to individuals held in police custody. For more than 50 years, we have provided legal aid services to the residents of Montreal and Laval. Our mission is to inform and support our clients in resolving legal issues. Competitive annual salary ranging from $86,416 to $200,315

- Working from home, you will respond to calls from detained individuals, inform them of their rights, and provide legal advice on criminal and penal matters, youth law, immigration law, and health law.



Appear during daytime hours before the Criminal and Penal Division of the Court of Québec, the Municipal Court, and the Youth Division of the Court of Québec, in support of lawyers from the relevant offices
- Provide coverage for permanent lawyers who are absent from their duties in youth and criminal law matters
- Assess financial eligibility and determine coverage for legal services in accordance with the Legal Aid Act and its regulations
- Perform any other duties related to the practice of law. Hold a law degree and be a member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec
- Be available to work a rotating schedule, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Demonstrate robust client-service skills and excellent oral and written communication abilities in French and English
- Demonstrate excellent judgment and strong legal reasoning
- Have at least one year of experience in criminal law (an asset)
