Salary range: $117,669.00 to $133,533.00 per year, 37.5 hours/week

Northern Allowance:

$25,646.00 per year (Qikiqtarjuaq)

$29,149.00 per year (Pond Inlet)

Reporting to the Wildlife Manager (North/South Baffin), the Conservation Officer III (CO III) leads the delivery of wildlife management, environmental protection, and mixed/traditional economy programs in an assigned region of Nunavut in accordance with applicable legislation and the Nunavut Agreement. The position supervises staff and works closely with Hunters and Trappers Organizations (HTOs), communities, and partner agencies such as DFO, CWS, and the RCMP to support effective enforcement and sustainable resource management. The CO III enforces wildlife and environmental legislation, delivers public education and training, and supports co-management approaches that balance conservation with traditional harvesting practices.

Through strong leadership and collaboration, the role helps ensure a sustainable renewable resource economy that meets the needs of Nunavummiut.

Responsibilities The key responsibilities of this position are:

- Manages district operations and supervises staff by overseeing station administration, parks, and facilities, and ensuring compliance with Government of Nunavut requirements.





- Provides leadership to field staff by directing junior officers across communities and supporting operational effectiveness.

- Enforces wildlife and environmental legislation by conducting inspections, issuing outfitting and tourism licenses, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

- Supports conservation and resource management by contributing to wildlife research and promoting sustainable tourism and outfitter development.

- Leads education and co-management initiatives by delivering conservation training and working with HTOs and communities to support wildlife co-management.

Qualifications The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are typically acquired through:

- Graduation from an accredited two-year resource technical institute;

- Three (3) years of experience as a Conservation Officer utilizing enforcement, licensing and inspection techniques;

- Three (3) years of supervisory experience;

- A valid Class 5 driver's license, along with the ability to operate trucks, snowmobiles, and ATVs;

- A valid Firearms Possession and Acquisition License (PAL); and
- A Transport Canada-approved Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP).

The following qualifications are considered assets:
- First Aid and CPR certification;

- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification; and

- Experience with wilderness travel and survival skills.

This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.





The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
