**Please apply on this platform and don't contact anyone from the AMC team. Please also only apply if you live in Vancouver BC, we will NOT be doing relocations.

We develop and manage commercial and residential construction projects across British Columbia. We handle procurement, contracts, cost reporting, and communication with clients, consultants, and trades, from early planning through project close. We have significant growth plans over the next couple of years. The accounting function will scale with them, and this role is central to that.

Location: You must currently reside in Vancouver, BC. Relocation will not be considered.

Compensation: Depending on experience.

Start Date: Mid September 2026.

Position Overview

You will start by running the accounting function end to end: full cycle bookkeeping in QuickBooks and full cycle project accounting in JobTread across multiple active projects. A significant share of that workload will sit with a major new commercial project starting shortly. As we grow, the role grows with it.

The path here is to Controller: owning the reporting the Principal makes decisions from, setting the standards the function runs on, and building and leading a small accounting team. That progression is real, and it is tied to the growth you help manage. It will suit someone who has already done project accounting for a construction or development company and wants to lead the direction in a smaller firm looking to grow.

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping and General Accounting

- Full cycle bookkeeping in QuickBooks: accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations,

journal entries, and month end close.
- GST and PST filings, WorkSafeBC remittances, payroll support, and preparation of the year end file for the external accountant.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and cost coding structure so reporting holds up as volume grows.

Project Accounting

- Own project accounting from start to finish across multiple active projects, tracking costs, budgets, commitments, and actual spending in JobTread.
- Review, process, and reconcile subcontractor and supplier invoices against contract values and purchase orders. Flag discrepancies before payment approval.
- Support the Project Manager on procurement, including issuing purchase orders and tracking commitments.
- Make sure every cost lands on the correct project and cost code.
- Prepare and maintain progress payment documents, statutory holdbacks, and subcontractor payment records.
- Track change orders end to end and keep an accurate, current log for every project.
- Produce the project reporting and monthly cost reporting the Principal and Project Manager rely on.
- Keep clean, audit ready records, and flag missing documents or unapproved invoices early, before gaps compound.

As the Business Grows

- Improve the close process,

the reporting pack, and the controls behind both.
- Hire, train, and manage accounting support as construction volume increases.

Work directly with the Principal on cash flow, forecasting, and financial decisions.

Qualifications Required

- 10 or more years in accounting, with meaningful time in construction or project based work. Strong QuickBooks experience. You can run the file, not just enter into it.
- Full cycle experience. You have closed a set of books yourself and stood behind the numbers.
- Construction cost accounting: progress billing, holdbacks, change orders, cost codes, and committed cost reporting.
- Robust Excel, and the discipline to keep structured records under volume without supervision.
- Preferred CPA designation, CPA in progress, or Controller level experience.
- JobTread or a comparable construction ERP or cost tracking platform.
- Familiarity with the BC Builders Lien Act and statutory holdback requirements
- Experience building or rebuilding an accounting function, not only operating one.
