Role Description The Controls Engineer is a full-time role based in Burlington, ON . This role designs, programs, and implements control systems for water filtration and treatment equipment, including specifying hardware, PLCs, HMIs, and instrumentation.

The Controls

Engineer collaborates with mechanical, electrical, and project engineers to develop system architectures, create detailed wiring diagrams, and support integration with existing customer infrastructure. Day-to-day responsibilities include commissioning systems, diagnosing and resolving control-related issues, optimizing process performance, and providing technical support to field service teams and customers. The role also involves preparing documentation, maintaining standards,



and contributing to continuous improvement of control strategies and automation practices.

Qualifications

- Robust foundation in Electrical Engineering with experience in industrial control panels, instrumentation, and power distribution.

- Minimum of three (3) years of experience designing industrial automation (water & wastewater) or process control systems.

- Proficiency in Process Control, including PLC programming, HMI configuration, and integration of sensors and actuators for automated systems.
- Hands-on Troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving electrical, control, and system integration issues in the field and in the shop.

- Experience with Motion Control and Robotics, such as servo drives, motor controllers, and automated handling or positioning systems.
- Familiarity with industrial standards and safety practices (e.g., NFPA, UL, IEC) and basic understanding of water treatment or process industries is beneficial.

- Ability to read and create electrical schematics, P&IDs;, and technical documentation using relevant CAD or design tools.
- Effective communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams, and readiness to support occasional travel to customer sites.

Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience in wastewater treatment, water treatment, or industrial process systems.

Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or comparable PLC platforms.

Familiarity with SCADA systems.

Experience with Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, or other industrial communication protocols.

AutoCAD Electrical experience and/or SolidWorks

Knowledge of UL508A control panels.
