Duncan Housing Society is seeking a caring, reliable and experienced Cook to prepare nutritious, appealing and well-balanced meals for seniors and persons with disabilities living in our housing community.

The successful candidate will take pride in preparing quality meals while creating a welcoming and respectful dining experience for our tenants.

Responsibilities

- Prepare and serve daily meals according to established menus and portion requirements.
- Prepare meals that are nutritious, appealing and appropriate for seniors.
- Follow proper food preparation, storage and food safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary and organized kitchen and food preparation areas.
- Complete food preparation, cooking and kitchen clean-up duties.
- Monitor food supplies and notify management when items need to be ordered.
- Properly store and label food and monitor food expiry dates.
- Follow all applicable health, safety and sanitation requirements.
- Work cooperatively with other staff members.
- Respond to tenant needs in a friendly, patient and respectful manner.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while providing positive customer service to tenants.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

- Previous cooking experience, preferably in a seniors’ residence, care facility, community kitchen.
- FoodSafe certification required.




- Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation and kitchen procedures.
- Ability to prepare nutritious meals for larger groups.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, dependable and able to maintain a consistent work schedule.
- Physically able to perform the duties of the position, including standing for extended periods and lifting kitchen supplies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A caring, patient and respectful approach when working with seniors and persons with disabilities.

Pay: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
