Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Corridor invites applications for the role of Corridor Clinical Department Hospital Lead (CCDHL), Adult Critical Care (ACC), General Systems Intensive Care Unit (GSICU) - University of Alberta (UAH).

This 0.30 FTE position governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, reports to the Corridor Clinical Department Lead, ACC and the Hospital Medical Director, UAH. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that standards of care are being met in the department and that support for research and teaching is available.

The GSICU Hospital Lead provides operational, clinical, and academic leadership for one of the largest and most complex critical care programs in the Edmonton Corridor. The role oversees a large multidisciplinary physician team and works closely with hospital leadership, external clinical partners, and academic stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality, protected, and innovative critical care services.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

- Lead, coordinate, and support a team of critical care physicians, including scheduling, performance management, and regular program meetings.
- Serve as the primary liaison with hospital leadership and external stakeholder groups that depend on GSICU services for patient care and support.
- Champion quality management, patient safety, accreditation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives across GSICU, the Burn Unit, 6A8, and the Medical Emergency Team (MET).
- Provide supervision and direction to the Deputy CCDHL, ACC, GSICU.
- Foster a safe, supportive, and high-quality learning environment for medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare learners.
- Support research, clinical innovation, and collaboration with the Academic Department within the region’s largest critical care teaching and research unit.




- Address and manage patient, family, physician, and workforce concerns to promote a positive care and work environment.

The position has an expected term of 3 years.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong abilities in communication, conflict resolution, and negotiation, along with a passion for quality and patient safety while working as part of a leadership team. They will be an inclusive and visionary leader with significant medical leadership experience and will be regarded by their peers as a strong clinician.

Candidates must be registered or eligible for registration with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent, eligible to work in Canada, and be eligible for or have current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.
