Cost Estimator Summary/Overview The Cost Estimator will partner closely with Business Development, Sales, Engineering, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, and field leadership to translate customer requirements into clear cost models and pricing recommendations.
The successful candidate will bring strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and practical knowledge of oil and gas or industrial service delivery. Their work will help Plum pursue the right opportunities, price work confidently, protect margins, and transition awarded business effectively to Operations.
Responsibilities And Duties
- Review customer RFPs, RFQs, scopes, specifications, schedules, contracts, and commercial requirements to define estimating needs.
- Develop accurate cost estimates, pricing models, bid tabs, rate schedules, budgets, and proposal inputs covering equipment, labor, materials, subcontractors, engineering, logistics, and field services.
- Collaborate with Sales, Business Development, Engineering, Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain to validate scope, execution plans, resource requirements, cost drivers, and pricing assumptions.
- Obtain, analyze, and maintain supplier, subcontractor, freight, rental, labor, market, historical, and contracted pricing information.
- Identify scope gaps, exclusions, contingencies, escalation factors, permitting requirements, schedule constraints, productivity risks, and other commercial exposures.
- Prepare clear estimate narratives and present cost drivers, risks, sensitivities, alternatives, assumptions, and margin recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.
- Support pricing strategy, bid/no-bid decisions, opportunity qualification, contract reviews, change orders, scope revisions, reforecasts,
and customer pricing updates.
- Maintain standardized estimating templates, historical cost databases, pricing references, version control, supporting documentation, approvals, and lessons learned.
- Compare estimates with actual project results and recommend improvements to estimating methods, rates, assumptions, processes, and profitability.
- Coordinate estimate handoffs for awarded work while protecting confidential commercial information and promoting safety, quality, regulatory compliance, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- Three to five years of experience in cost estimating, project controls, proposals, pricing, commercial analysis, or a related function.
- Experience in oil and gas, natural gas, energy services, industrial services, equipment rental, construction, field services, or a related industry.
Preferred Education And Experience
- Experience estimating natural gas equipment, compression, gas conditioning, pressure regulation, temporary gas, field services, industrial projects, or related solutions.
- Experience supporting competitive bids, RFPs, RFQs, tenders, proposals, or customer presentations.
- Experience with estimating, ERP, CRM, project management, or cost-control systems.
