Data Cloud Engineer

Mission: Enable and optimize Hydro One's Enterprise Data Platform by designing, operating, and continuously improving the cloud infrastructure, environments, and platform services that support Snowflake, enterprise integrations, analytics, and AI workloads at scale. Serve as the bridge between Snowflake, Microsoft Azure, and Hydro One enterprise technology teams to keep the platform secure, resilient, scalable, and cost-effective.

Key responsibilities:

• Design and manage the Azure cloud foundation supporting Snowflake, including networking, storage, identity, private connectivity, security controls, and integration with Hydro One infrastructure.

• Own the strategy and lifecycle for Snowflake development, test, quality assurance, production, and disaster recovery environments, ensuring consistent configuration, promotion, resilience, and operational readiness.

• Establish reusable Infrastructure-as-Code, automated provisioning, CI/CD, and environment-management patterns using approved enterprise tooling.

• Define and optimize Snowflake warehouse sizing, auto-scaling, workload isolation, resource monitoring, storage utilization, and compute consumption across delivery teams.

• Partner with Hydro One Infrastructure, Cyber Security, Cloud Operations, Enterprise Architecture, data engineering teams, and vendors to align platform services with enterprise standards and operating processes.

• Enable secure integration between Snowflake and enterprise applications through APIs, event-driven patterns, data sharing, private networking, and Azure-native integration services.

• Monitor platform capacity, performance, reliability, and cost; lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, capacity planning, disaster recovery exercises,

and continuous optimization.

• Evaluate relevant Snowflake and Azure capabilities and maintain platform architecture patterns, technical standards, operational runbooks, and onboarding guardrails for all delivery teams.

Typical qualifications:

5+ years in cloud engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or enterprise data platform operations; hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and production Snowflake environments; strong knowledge of cloud networking, identity and access management, storage, private connectivity, infrastructure architecture, and multi-environment design;

experience with Terraform or equivalent Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD, APIs, enterprise integration, cloud governance, FinOps, business continuity, and disaster recovery. SnowPro Core and relevant Microsoft Azure certifications preferred.

Key skills: Snowflake platform and setting architecture, Azure cloud infrastructure, multi-environment management, cloud networking and private connectivity, Terraform/Infrastructure-as-Code, APIs and integration architecture, DevOps and CI/CD automation, warehouse and compute optimization, scalability and capacity planning, FinOps, resilience, and enterprise operational support.

Success metrics (first 6–12 months): Standardized Snowflake environment and promotion strategy operational; repeatable provisioning and deployment automation adopted; warehouse, compute, storage, and workload optimization standards used across delivery teams; reliable Azure connectivity and integration patterns established; and measurable improvements in platform scalability, resilience, performance, cost efficiency, and onboarding speed.
