Role: DBA
Location: Toronto, ON
Mode: Fulltime
JD The DBA will support enterprise migration projects involving the migration of databases from on-premises environments to Microsoft Azure. The role is responsible for database assessment, migration planning, execution, validation, performance optimization, and post-migration support.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess source databases and identify migration readiness gaps.
- Plan and execute SQL Server migrations to Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
- Perform schema, data, and application compatibility assessments.
- Use Azure Database Migration Service (DMS) and related migration tools.
- Implement backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Monitor and tune database performance during and after migration.
- Develop migration runbooks, rollback plans, and validation procedures.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, networking, and security teams.
- Ensure compliance with security, governance, and operational standards.
- Support production cutovers and post-migration stabilization activities.
Required Skills
- Strong SQL Server DBA experience.
- Experience with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, and Azure Virtual Machines.
- Knowledge of Always On Availability Groups, replication, clustering, backup and recovery.
- Experience with performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Database Migration Service (DMS).
- T-SQL, PowerShell, and automation scripting skills.
- Knowledge of database security, encryption, and auditing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of database administration experience.
- Experience in cloud migration or database modernization projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Azure certifications such as DP-300, AZ-104, or AZ-305.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL migrations.
- Previous experience in large-scale enterprise transformation programs."
