The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director, Claims & Loss Prevention provides strategic and operational leadership for claims handling and loss prevention activities across the organization. You will lead a team of claims and loss prevention professionals, ensuring strong technical performance, consistent service delivery, appropriate reserving practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. You will also play a central role in reducing financial loss, liability exposure, and operational risk by advancing effective loss prevention strategies and fostering a culture of accountability, risk awareness, and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide strategic direction and day-to-day leadership to the Claims & Loss Prevention team, including Auto Physical Damage Adjusters, Casualty Claims Adjusters, Property Adjusters, Loss Prevention Specialists, and administrative support.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members while creating an accountable,



collaborative, and high-performing culture.
- Oversee claims operations to achieve strong performance, timely and fair resolution, service quality, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.
- Establish and maintain effective claims handling practices, reserving guidelines, quality standards, workflows, and performance expectations.
- Provide leadership and technical guidance on large-loss, complex, contentious, and sensitive claims matters across all lines of business.
- Develop and implement loss prevention strategies that reduce operational, financial, and reputational risk for Nova Mutual and its members.
- Lead a robust quality assurance program, including monthly file audits, risk-based review priorities, corrective actions, and ongoing process improvements.
- Monitor claims trends, operational metrics, service standards, and member feedback; provide clear reporting and recommendations to the Leadership Team.

What you need

- College or university degree in Insurance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation or equivalent insurance designation.
- At least 10 years of progressive insurance industry experience, including a minimum of three years in a leadership role.
- Extensive experience investigating, evaluating, and managing complex property, casualty, auto physical damage, and/or large-loss claims.
- Strong knowledge of claims operations, reserving practices, claims quality assurance, regulatory requirements,



and loss prevention principles.
- Demonstrated success leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams.
- Sound judgment and the ability to make effective decisions in complex, sensitive, and time-sensitive situations.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, relationship-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Robust analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to translate trends and data into practical business improvements.

- The expected base salary range for this position is $108,000 - $162,000. Depending on relevant experience, skills, qualifications, market conditions and business needs, base compensation may vary.
