Position Summary

Drug Access Facilitator, Pharmacy Services (Oncology) The Drug Access Facilitator will support services provided by the Pharmacy Department. Reporting to Manager, Pharmacy Operations, the Drug Access Facilitator (DAF) serves as an advisor and resource for patients, physicians, and staff in facilitating, coordinating, and evaluating available programs and resources to support access to medication reimbursement assistance programs, compassionate programs, and external community supports (such as private infusion clinics)for NYG patients. This position will follow appropriate referral processes and actively engage with government programs, external organizations, community and private agencies, and pharmaceutical companies that provide medication financial assistance.

The DAF will also provide patient support and coordinate the logistics required for patients to access newly funded medications, ensuring continuity of care and treatment.

On a practical level, you will





- Contribute to the day-to-day operation of essential Pharmacy drug distribution and support.
- May include sterile and non-sterile compounding, barcoding and receiving, stock check and replenishment, and other drug distribution related activities.
- Providing a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and others by ensuring that health and safety policies and regulations are followed.
- Advise oncologists and hematologists on funded and non-funded drugs available for any given indication, and direct physicians to how/where the patient would get the drug administered (i.e., at NYG vs infusion clinic vs elsewhere).
- Support the experience of cancer patients and their families by facilitating and coordinating access to oncology medications for all eligible patients.
- Connect with pharmacy third party payers, including online pharmacy third party billing and drug assistance programs.
- Require working knowledge of the ODB formulary and Trillium Drug Program.
- Oncology-related experience in ambulatory settings, and familiar with drugs utilized in this setting including generic brand names, indications, and disease terminology.
- Prepare and admix oncology drug preparations in the sterile room for patients as needed.

Qualifications

- Graduate of a recognized Pharmacy Technician Program, College level.
- Minimum 3 years of Pharmacy Technician experience.
- Registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP).
- Completion of OCP’s Technician certification exam, or PEBC’s national evaluating exam, preferred.
- Experience with pharmacy third party payers,



including online pharmacy third party billing and drug assistance programs.
- Working knowledge of the ODB formulary and Trillium Drug Program.
- Oncology-related experience in ambulatory settings (familiarity with drugs utilized in this setting including generic and brand names, indications and disease terminology).
- Experience in Hospital Pharmacy preferred.
- Experience with IV admixtures.
- Experience conducting Best Possible Medication Histories is preferred SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Proven proficiency with computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet applications and email systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent teamwork, problem solving, time management and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated initiative.
- Bilingualism in French/English an asset.
