Duties and Responsibilities:

The Early Intervention Caseworker is part of a pilot project that provides enhanced supports to those at risk of using violence. The project focuses primarily on individuals who are at risk of using violence and/or are currently using violence. Services may also be provided to those who are experiencing violence (individuals and families). Duties shall be performed in a manner consistent with the overall mission, vision, and values of Family Service Saskatoon.

The Early Intervention

Caseworker position reports to the Director of Programs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide direct case management and facilitate individual and group interventions for individuals at risk of using violence. Facilitate therapeutic groups for individuals who are at risk of using violence or have used violence in relationships.

· Conduct risk assessments to identify factors associated with violence, coercive control, and safety concerns, regardless of whether criminal charges have been laid.

· Assess family dynamics, identify co-occurring risks, and evaluate the potential for unsafe situations affecting children, partners, or other family members.

· Develop and implement individualized intervention plans aimed at reducing the risk of violence and improving safety; assess client needs and make referrals to appropriate services and supports.

· Apply evidence-informed strategies to engage individuals who may be at risk of using violence.

· Use person-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally safe practices when working with individuals at risk of using violence and those affected by violence.

· Provide or coordinate safety planning, crisis intervention, short-term supportive counselling, outreach services, advocacy, and system navigation for individuals impacted by intimate partner violence.

· Participate in program development, community outreach, and public education initiatives, including the development and facilitation of workshops, presentations, groups, and other interventions.

· Build and maintain positive working relationships with referral sources, community partners,



and service providers to promote coordinated support and service delivery.

· Participate in agency meetings, community committees, training opportunities, and ongoing professional development activities.

· Fulfill all mandatory reporting obligations related to child protection and intimate partner violence in accordance with legislation, agency policies, and professional standards.

· Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case records, including case notes, assessments, correspondence, evaluations, and statistical data.

· Provide guidance and support to students, peers, and individual cases as assigned.

· Participate in regular clinical supervision with the Director of Programs.

· Perform work outside of regular operating hours, including evenings and/or weekends.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

· Bachelor of Social Work degree or Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work degree

· One to three years of direct experience in a relevant area.

· Be eligible for registration with and maintain good standing in a relevant professional association.

Areas of Knowledge:

· Counselling theories and practice, including short-term, crisis counselling

· Theories of human development, behaviour, and change

· Theories and practices of communication and conflict resolution

· Knowledge of the dynamics of intimate partner violence and demonstrated experience working with those experiencing such violence and those who have used or are at risk of using violence in relationships. Awareness of the dynamics of abuse, coercive control, and violence

· Demonstrate training in and familiarity with concepts from the Safety and Repair Model, Safe & Together, Narrative Therapy, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) or be willing to become trained in and proficient with these models





· Knowledge and experience in using trauma-informed and violence-informed approaches

· Experience facilitating groups

· In-depth knowledge of community resources/agencies and the services offered in relation to intimate partner violence

· Awareness of and cultural sensitivity to the customs, traditions, spiritual beliefs and philosophy and perspective on family dynamics of Indigenous, immigrant, refugee, and newcomer populations. Demonstrated ability to work in cross-cultural environments

· Awareness of addictions, mental health concerns, FASD, and influence/impact on individuals impacted by intimate partner violence

· Knowledge of the justice system and the domestic violence court

· Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and within a team workplace in a professional and respectful manner

· Adhere to professional ethics and standards

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Ability to deal with people experiencing difficult, unusual, and/or challenging situations

· Caseload management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

· Valid driver's license and consistent access to a reliable personal vehicle

Final candidates are required to provide satisfactory criminal record checks including a vulnerable sector search. This position is in-scope, CUPE Local 5316. This is a temporary, full time, in scope term position to March 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension.

Compensation:

Pay range of $4,957.25 to $5,471.88 per month based on bachelor’s degree and related experience. Comprehensive benefits plan.
