Job Overview

Selis Learning Academy is seeking a caring, energetic, and responsible Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) Afterschool Teacher to join our afterschool educational program.

In this role, you will support school-age children after regular school hours by providing homework assistance, leading educational and recreational activities, supervising children, and helping create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children and wants to combine early childhood education principles with academic and afterschool programming.

Responsibilities

- Supervise children during the afterschool program and ensure their safety and well-being
- Provide homework assistance and academic support in subjects such as reading, writing, and basic mathematics
- Plan and lead age-appropriate educational, recreational, creative, and enrichment activities
- Support children’s social, emotional, behavioural, and academic development
- Create a secure, welcoming, inclusive, and respectful learning environment
- Encourage positive behaviour, cooperation, independence, and appropriate social interaction
- Assist children with transitions between school, homework, activities, snack time, and departure
- Prepare learning materials, activity supplies, and classroom resources
- Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, teachers,



and other staff regarding children’s daily activities and progress
- Monitor attendance and ensure children are released only to authorized parents or guardians
- Support children with diverse learning needs and provide appropriate assistance within the scope of the position
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of classroom and activity areas
- Follow Selis Learning Academy’s policies and procedures regarding child supervision, safety, confidentiality, and professional conduct
- Participate in staff meetings, program planning, and special events as required

Qualifications

- Valid British Columbia Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) Certificate
- Previous experience working with children in a childcare, classroom, afterschool, tutoring, or educational environment is preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide effective homework and learning support to school-age children
- Understanding of child development and positive guidance strategies
- Patient, dependable, organized, and enthusiastic about working with children
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Experience supporting children with diverse abilities or learning needs is an asset
- Current First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
- Successful completion of any required criminal record check or other childcare-related screening requirements
