The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking an Energy Resources Specialist to join the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment's Mineral and Energy Strategy Division in Inuvik.

This role brings together energy-sector expertise, public policy and resource management to help shape the responsible development of energy resources in the Northwest Territories. You will provide strategic and technical advice on oil and gas development, regulatory and legislative initiatives, energy markets and broader land and resource management decisions.

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Energy Resources, you will research and analyze energy-related policy and legislation, lead and support regulatory initiatives, monitor energy markets and industry activity, and provide advice to senior decision-makers. You will work with Indigenous governments and organizations, industry, federal and territorial governments, regulatory bodies and other partners on issues affecting energy development in the NWT.

Key Responsibilities

- Research, analyze and provide recommendations on legislation and policies affecting oil and gas resources and energy development.
- Lead and coordinate the development or amendment of energy-related regulations and policies, including engagement with governments, industry and other stakeholders.
- Monitor energy markets,



exploration and development activity and prepare reports, briefing materials and advice for senior management and decision-makers.
- Provide technical and regulatory advice related to land-use planning, environmental assessments, conservation initiatives and resource management.
- Develop technical and evidence-based information to support awareness of and investment in NWT energy resource opportunities.
- Represent GNWT interests in intergovernmental and sector discussions and build relationships with Indigenous governments, industry and other partners.

Qualifications Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

- A bachelor's degree in Earth Science, Engineering, Public Administration, Policy Studies, Social Sciences, Resource Management, Law, or a related field, combined with three years of relevant and progressive experience in the resource industry, resource management, policy or legislative development, or research related to the resource sector.
- Experience in the energy sector is an asset.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
